- Investigate and diagnose complex engineering problems and recommend cost effective solutions.
- Arrange for or conduct inspections or measurements, prepare new and/or modify existing technical specifications and test procedures, coordinate and supervise testing and perform failure analysis and other studies.
- Coordinate internal/external engineering design and services to ensure project, standards and reliability requirements are met, and recommend changes in design, or develop new concepts of design to meet requirements. May require supervision of staff.
- Inspect, assess and prepare engineering details for the modification and rehabilitation of existing systems, equipment, structures, etc. to ensure acceptable standards of performance and reliability.
- Prepare, review and approve estimates, material lists, specifications, standards, policies, work methods, test procedures, schedules and designs related to assigned work.
- Prepare reports, document issues, provide expertise, and make recommendations related to assigned work in accordance with applicable regulations/codes and standards.
- Monitor, analyze data and formulate programs to improve equipment and/or systems reliability and performance.
- Assist with procurement and as required.
- Verify and approve engineering drawings as a Professional Engineer.
- Work on special projects as assigned.

- Completion of a post-secondary college diploma or university degree (Electrical Engineering) or combination of education, training and experience deemed to be equivalent.
- Registration as a Professional Engineer in the Province of Ontario is required
- Comprehensive knowledge of the electrical engineering discipline, as related to transit vehicle engineering
- Strong knowledge of project management concepts and practices with the ability to carry out and/or coordinate projects and studies
- In-depth knowledge of vehicle testing procedures, programs and all associated electrical/electronic controls and quality controls concepts
- Conversant with electrically/electronically actuated pneumatic, hydraulic, and HVAC systems and principles
- Sound judgement supported by excellent technical, analytical and problem-solving skills
- Excellent communication, interpersonal and report writing skills.
- Computer and software literate with good working knowledge of applications related to the work
- Must have or rapidly acquire a comprehensive knowledge of the Ontario Human Rights Code and Related Orders including disability accommodation and accessibility requirements pertaining to passengers and employees

We are looking for a Senior Electrical Engineer in our Bus Maintenance and Shops Department within the Technical Support Services section
Reporting to the Manager of Technical Support Services, this person will manage operating project work programs relating to TTC's revenue bus fleet along with resolving electrical and electronic operating problems on TTC's vehicles.
Some of the operating responsibilities will include diagnosing complex electrical problems and recommending engineered solutions. You will carry out design work and related drawing revisions, prepare various technical correspondence and reports.
You will directly supervise staff engaged in these activities and take professional responsibility for electrical design work as required by the Professional Engineers of Ontario (PEO).
