The Resident Care Aide is responsible to the General Manager and reports to the Director of Care throughout each shift.

The Resident Care Aide assists the Residents to maintain as close to a home like environment as possible.

The duties will be "need and situation oriented" to support and foster independence and meet the Resident's physical, emotional and psychosocial needs on a daily basis.


Duties and Responsibilities:


  • Assists the residents in maintaining a high level of personal hygiene including bathing, dressing, grooming, mouth care, skin care, nail care and hair care according to individual resident care needs as specified on the resident's care plan. Provides shower/tub as per resident care plan.
  • Assists resident in meeting nutritional needs by encouraging independence with eating and drinking and providing assistance when and as required. Prepares and delivers nourishments and snacks. Promotes, provides and monitors adequate hydration based on resident needs.
  • In accordance with safety guidelines and based on resident's care plan, assists residents with rest and mobilization based on their current condition/ability. This includes pre-handling check and adherence to all safety protocols for transferring, use of mechanical lifts, bath lifts, use of transfer belts, assisting with walking, and ambulation by wheelchair, positioning in bed or wheelchair and use of commode.
  • Documents observations about the resident's condition and care given on the health record using appropriate forms and reports changes in resident condition to the care team.
  • Participates in the development of the resident care plans in collaboration with the care team.
  • Records heights and weights and output documents as per facility policy.
  • Promotes skin integrity by encouraging mobility and observing and reporting any changes in skin condition. Applies medicated and non-medicated lotions, hot and cold packs, non-sterile dressings as directed by the LPN or RN. Monitors pressure relieving surfaces and reports any changes.
  • Assists in the appropriate use and maintenance of supportive devices including: sensory aids (hearing aides/glasses), communication devices, prostheses, compression stockings, splints and oxygen therapy.
  • Supports residents in meeting their psychosocial/spiritual needs including facilitating attendance at programs and events.
  • Utilizes appropriate communication skills, both verbal and non-verbal, in caring for residents and families. Verbally communicates observations of resident's condition to the LPN/Team Leader.
  • Provides appropriate palliative care that meets the needs of the resident and family members. Provides care of the body after death.
  • Welcomes residents and families to the community by familiarizing them with the community environment. Assists with the discharge of the resident when required.
  • Assists with the orientation of new staff, volunteers and students.
  • Assists residents in maintaining a safe and clean environment by ensuring that equipment and belongings are cleaned, stored and well maintained according to facility procedures.
  • Assists in maintaining a safe work environment by adhering to established policies and procedures. Attends meetings and participates in the program's quality improvement activities as assigned. Attends/completes education and participates on committees as assigned.
  • Reports any resident incidents and accidents to the LPN and completes documentation as required.
  • Maintains high standards for personal grooming ensuring uniform is clean, tidy and according to dress code.

Qualifications:


Education and Experience
Graduate of a recognized Nursing Assistant Program or able to prove equivalent combination of education and training and experience. Registered with the BC Care Aide registry. Current CPR and WHMIS certification.

Job Types:
Full-time, Part-time, Permanent, Fixed term contract

Pay:
Up to $29.83 per hour
