Key Tasks and Responsibilities
Service
- Manages and maintains the physical facilities (interior and exterior) by planning and implementing preventative maintenance plan;
- Manages workers, volunteers, renters and subcontractors;
- Manages contracts with subcontractors as required;
- Assists with planning, developing and implementing programs, special events and services;
- Acts as a resource to support employees, independent contractors, volunteers and paid workers;
- Inspects the facility for preventative maintenance purposes and hazard analysis;
- Ensures that activity rooms are set up daily;
- Coordinates facility rentals, including issuing facility rental agreements, set up and coordinating security for rental schedule;
- Conducts monthly inspections, coordinates building security and fire drills as a certified Health and
- Repairs and maintains equipment;
EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITY
- Oversees exterior and ground maintenance including snow removal, salting, grass cutting, and watering;
- Obtains quotes when supplies, purchases or services are being tendered;
- Familiarity with telephone systems and able to identify problems; and
- Familiarity with IT equipment and able to identify problems.
Supervision and Administration
- Interviews, screens, trains, orients, evaluates, supervises and schedules independent contractors, volunteers and casual and paid workers;
- Assists in the development of Job Descriptions and Volunteer Positions Descriptions;
- Writes and presents performance reviews where required;
- Contributes to the establishment of policies and procedures related to the maintenance area;
- Coordinates and maintains inventory control;
- Reports, quarterly and annually, in writing, to the Executive Director;
- Researches and investigates opportunities to maximize revenue and/or creation of new revenue streams for the Department.
Organizational
- Fulfills The Good Companions' mission, goals and objectives;
- Works with an open, friendly approach toward members, clients and volunteers as they participate in the Corporation;
- Promotes The Good Companions' programs and services to potential community referring sources, funders and other older adult centres;
- Assists in the development and implementation of long term planning and policies;
- Complies with The Good Companions' policies, practices and procedures, including Occupational
- Enforces policies and procedures, investigates and reports all incidents relating to health and safety.
Qualifications
Education
- Stationary Engineer or Electrical Certificate or equivalent
- Health and Safety Certificate
- Working at heights training
Experience
- 35 years in a facility management position;
- 12 years working with older adults or persons with a physical disability
- Knowledge of health and safety procedures (WSIB/WHIMS)
- Experience in handling and maintenance of summer and winter power equipment (snow blower, lawn mower)
- Intermediate knowledge of power tools
Operational Requirements
EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITY
- Negative Police Record Check for Working with the Vulnerable;
- C.P.R. and First Aid Certificate, required annually
Skills Required:
- Experience or certification working with electrical, plumbing and facility equipment, i.e., HVAC units, water pumps, generators, etc.;
- Computer literacy;
- Ability to troubleshoot and knowledge of Microsoft programs and issues (telephone system, non

- Health and Safety Certificate
- Human resources experience is an asset.
