Department Information:


The Department of Municipal and Community Affairs (MACA), supports capable, accountable and self-directed community governments providing a safe, sustainable and healthy environment for community residents.


Job Information:


The incumbent is responsible for the management of internal department financial functions, and is the department lead on liaising with the Department of Finance, Financial Shared Services and to MACA Corporate Affairs in headquarters.

The incumbent also provides financial advice to support community governments in the Sahtu region.


The Assistant Superintendent provides advice and support to community governments and to MACA senior management on the potential and actual impacts of resource developments and supports community governments response to those impacts at the community, regional and territorial level.

The Assistant Superintendent also ensures community interests are represented in forums with government departments, industry representatives or other resource related stakeholders.


KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • Knowledge of community development processes, government operations, government structures and community government administration and operations.
  • Understanding of social and political dynamics of northern and aboriginal communities.
  • Knowledge and skill in the area of identification and management of physical, social and economic impacts of resource development on community infrastructure, governance and residents.
  • Knowledge of the oil and gas industry.
  • Knowledge of administrative and financial processes including systems such as MS Office and SAM.

Typically, the above qualifications would be attained by:

The above noted knowledge, skills and abilities may typically be acquired through the completion of a bachelor's degree in public administration or a related field and a minimum of 5 years of experience in management.

Experience working in an environmental and resources related field, and some background in financial management would be considered assets.
