The Opportunity:


Reporting to the Clinical Manager, Community Mental Health and Addictions (CMHA), the Psychologist will be a key member of an interdisciplinary team, participating in assessments, providing treatment to patients and families and consulting with other health professionals, both internal and external to the IWK.

The Social Worker must have a specialized knowledge and experience working with children and youth presenting with eating disorders and be able to assess and manage the risk associated with such illness/disorders.

The Psychologist must have an interest in helping these children and youth through all phases of their illness and with associated clinical conditions such as suicidality, anxiety and depression.

In collaboration with the other members of the team, the Psychologist will also be responsible to help support and participate in structured training environments where clinical trainees are mentored and supervised.

The goal is to advance the trainees' specialized skill, knowledge and use of evidence based treatment of Eating Disorders.


Hours of Work:

7.5 hour shifts, Monday to Friday, , with some evenings. Flexibility is required


Your Qualifications:


  • Doctoral degree (Ph.
D./PsyD) in Clinical Psychology; ccompletion of a full-year, full-time Canadian Psychological Association/American Psychological Association internship/residency (or an equivalent) required.

  • Registration, or eligibility for registration, with the NS Board of Examiners in Psychology required.
  • Minimum of 2 years formal training and clinical experience working with children and youth with Tier 3 or higher mental illness and disorders required.
  • Specific training and experience in the delivery of evidencebased treatments for eating disorders such as Family Based Therapy (FBT), CBT-T, Emotion Focused Family Therapy, Motivational Interviewing, and other evidencebased treatments specific to youth eating disorders required.
  • Demonstrated experience in providing group interventions for parents, children and adolescents required.
  • Demonstrated excellent verbal and written communication and organizational skills required.
  • Demonstrated understanding of and commitment to familycentred care and evidence informed practice required.
  • Knowledge of IWK mental health programs and community resources
  • Knowledge and experience with continuous quality improvement methodology.
  • Current Non-Violent Crisis Intervention (NVCI) certification.
