The LCS Summer Academy is currently recruiting for the House Life Coordinator Team.

With 145 years of outdoor education experience, LCS Summer Academy provides fun and challenging programs for campers ages 4 to 18.

Each program is full of opportunities to learn in and through the outdoors on our 315-acre waterfront campus.

Position Summary:


Reporting to the Director, LCS Summer Academy & Ancillary Programs, the House Life Coordinator(s) (HLC) will oversee and implement anything related to the student's residential experience, including ensuring appropriate overnight supervision at LCS Summer Academy.


The HLC will help to establish a safe and fun overnight camp experience and will ensure the necessary personnel and staffing are assigned to each house for supervision during the evenings and overnight.

During their time on, the HLC will participate and engage in activities, get to know the students, and engage and check in with other staff.


The HLC's will also assist in facilitating programming during their duty period and will ensure efficient staffing at each of the locations for evening programming and overnight responsibilities, in addition, they will liaise with any program leads if any difficulties arise with campers (students).


Position Responsibilities:


Residential Operations:

  • Oversee all residential activities while on duty, ensuring a safe and enjoyable environment. Supervise overnight counselors directly, serving as their point of contact and providing guidance and support as necessary. Develop, implement, and oversee house protocols in consultation with the Director, LCS Summer Academy & Ancillary Programs.

Camper and Parent Engagement:

  • Regularly interact with campers to foster a supportive and engaging environment.
  • Foster positive relationships with parents to ensure a collaborative and supportive camp experience.

Emergency Response and Weekend Excursions:

  • Be available for emergency oncall duty 24/7 throughout duty periods to respond promptly to any incidents or emergencies. Participate in weekend excursions as required during duty periods to ensure the safety and wellbeing of campers.

Residential Presence and Senior Team Membership:

  • Live on campus during duty periods and be present and accessible at all times. Act as a senior member of the Summer Academy Team, participating in daily communication, coordination, training, support, feedback sessions, debriefs, and evaluations to ensure the effective operation of the program.

Qualifications and Experience:


  • Completed Undergrad Degree or Diploma
  • Current Certification for Standard First Aid & CPR C, and Mental Health First Aid
  • Ability to work with and instruct teenagers
  • Personal qualities: campercentred, collaborative, caring, enthusiastic, solutionoriented, strong interpersonal skills, strong organizational and communication skills
  • Full "G" class license, over the age of 25, and ability to drive large van

The following qualifications would be considered an asset:

  • Experience working in overnight settings (e.g., summer camps, boarding school, etc.)
  • Bronze Cross or NLS
  • Ontario Pleasure Craft Operator's License
  • Second language proficiency and ESL experience

SCHEDULE: 3/3, when feasible (3 days on, 3 days off), including overnight responsibility, activities throughout the day, and evening programming. Schedule flexibility within the 3-day rotations will be given, where possible.
Senior Staff Training: 24 to 28 June
All Staff Training: 2 to 5 July
Shift Pattern: 7 July to 4 September
