Job Summary

The Child & Youth Counsellor works as a member of an inter-professional team to provide assessment, meal support, behavioural counselling and supportive therapy to children and adolescent clients and their families admitted to the Eating Disorder inpatient beds.

He/she role models both professional and the organizational core competencies.

Skills & Abilities

Three (3) to five (5) years relevant work experience
Hospital treatment experience
Experience working on interprofessional team
Systems approach; including client's family and interprofessional team.
Demonstrated experience and confidence in clinical skills, team participation and professional reports to staff, family, community and physicians
Innovative and willing to learn
Demonstrated excellence in communication, both written and verbal
Demonstrated problem assessment skills
Demonstrated commitment to customer service and teamwork
Demonstrated individual leadership skills, with experience in taking initiative and program development
Commitment to providing an exceptional experience for patients and families as well as other members of the healthcare team within a challenging and exciting health care environment.
Demonstrated commitment to, and understanding of the principles of diversity, equity and inclusion

Qualifications

Child & Youth Worker Diploma (3 year program), or B.A. in Child & Youth Care
Current membership in Ontario Association of Child & Youth Workers
Crisis intervention training, e.g., Crisis Prevention Institute course or equivalent is preferred
