Job Summary


The Child & Youth Counsellor works as a member of an inter-professional team to provide assessment, meal support, behavioural counselling and supportive therapy to children and adolescent clients and their families admitted to the Eating Disorder inpatient beds.

He/she role models both professional and the organizational core competencies.


Skills & Abilities

  • Three (3) to five (5) years relevant work experience
  • Hospital treatment experience
  • Experience working on interprofessional team
  • Systems approach; including client's family and interprofessional team.
  • Demonstrated experience and confidence in clinical skills, team participation and professional reports to staff, family, community and physicians
  • Innovative and willing to learn
  • Demonstrated excellence in communication, both written and verbal
  • Demonstrated problem assessment skills
  • Demonstrated commitment to customer service and teamwork
  • Demonstrated individual leadership skills, with experience in taking initiative and program development
  • Commitment to providing an exceptional experience for patients and families as well as other members of the healthcare team within a challenging and exciting health care environment.

Qualifications

  • Child & Youth Worker Diploma (3 year program), or B.A. in Child & Youth Care
  • Current membership in Ontario Association of Child & Youth Workers
  • Crisis intervention training, e.g., Crisis Prevention Institute course or equivalent is preferred
