    Description

    Located out of our Calgary office, the individual in the Engineer, Integrity (External Interference) position will report to the Manager, Integrity Engineering as part of the Technical Service department within Inter Pipeline's Transportation Business Unit (TBU). The successful candidate is an intermediate engineer with experience in assessing hydrotechnical, geotechnical and third-party threat related to pipelines.

    Key Activities and Responsibilities

    • Provide technical guidance related to the monitoring and assessment of geotechnical hazards based on risk prioritization
    • Continuously monitor the effectiveness of implemented methodologies and technologies to optimize geohazard mitigation strategies
    • Manage third-party geotechnical and hydrotechnical vendors and ensure the quality of assessments and inspection reports are accurate
    • Review third-party activities requests to assess their impact on pipeline integrity and provide recommendation appropriate mitigation measures are implemented
    • Support class location assessments to ensure compliance with relevant regulations and standards
    • Evaluate cost-saving opportunities within the geohazard and third-party program
    • Identify and advance geohazard remediation projects on a risk prioritization basis
    • Support the development and continual improvement of technical documents, procedures and standards relating to geohazard and third-party program
    • Participate in internal audits and external audits with regulatory agencies
    • Collaborate with member of the Integrity Engineering and Implementation teams to ensure integrate learnings from the program are incorporated into the overall Pipeline Integrity Management program
    • Assist Manager with developing the annual budget, 5-year forecast and managing program costs for integrity activities and financial reporting

    Education, Skills and Experience

    • An engineering degree (preferably Geotechnical, Civil, or, Mechanical) from an accredited post-secondary institution and registration as a professional engineer (APEGA preferred
    • 5-7 years of related experience in integrity, geotechnical or hydrotechnical fields in the pipeline oil and gas sector
    • Technical understanding of geohazard assessment methods, monitoring and mitigation strategies in relation to pipeline integrity management
    • Knowledgeable in integrating inertial measurement unit (IMU) data into the geohazard program to identify potential strain patterns which could propose a threat to the pipeline
    • Attention to detail, the ability for problem-solving and critical thinking skills
    • Self-motivated with the ability to work independently to deliver strong results
    • Must have a good working knowledge of applicable codes, rules, regulations and industry standards applicable in Alberta and Saskatchewan
    • Adhere to IPL's Professional Practice Management Plan (PPMP)

    Permanent full-time
