Description

The Department of Community Services, Operations division requires Landscape Gardeners for the 2023 summer season from May 1, 2023 to September 30, 2023.


Major Job Responsibilities:


  • Codesign, plan and plant all annual beds and perennial plantings, trim hedges/shrubs and weed, water and mulch various planting bed areas throughout Town
  • Co-Supervise and coordinate all aspects of annual, perennial, shrub and bed maintenance
  • Direct, guide and train seasonal workers to plant, weed, mulch and water planting beds throughout Town
  • Ensure that proper safety procedures are followed at all times
  • Place, annuals, perennials, shrubs, trees, turf and other horticultural related orders while ensuring compliance within the predetermined budget
  • Provide input to the Manager of Forestry and Horticulture in forecasting the budget of horticultural related items and utilizing the Horticulture budget effectively throughout the year
  • Assist Forestry area from time to time with Forestry related programs as directed
  • Assist in winter Operations duties including sidewalk plowing and snow removal as required
  • Other duties as assigned

Education and Experience:


  • Thorough knowledge of trees, shrubs, annuals and perennials along with annual plant display design and establishment
  • Qualified to operate vehicles including tractors, pickup trucks and 1 ton dump trucks
  • General understanding of horticultural practices and able to prioritize/schedule work effectively
  • Current Standard First Aid Certificate/CPR and WHMIS an asset
  • Class G license with a driving record that demonstrates responsible and safe driving habits.

Hours:40 hour work week, overtime and shift work are required.


Hourly Rate:
$27.63
