Teaching Assistant Position

Position Summary:


Assist students with final projects; provide feedback on and grade written project proposals, final project reports, and presentations of final projects; assist students with lab exercises; lead some of the lab exercises; grade lab reports; attend and participate in class.


Qualifications:
The ideal applicant should have at least three courses in GIS, including coursework in both vector
- and raster-based systems. Applicant should also have completed coursework in remote sensing. Applicants should have completed at least one independent project or have work experience using GIS methods in scientific research. Applicants must have good problem solving skills and should be very familiar with the ArcGIS environment. Familiarity with GIS data available for Quebec and Canada is important. Experience with other GIS software a plus.

  • Please note that given the resumption of most inperson teaching activities, Teaching Assistants will be required on campus to perform their tasks in person. Should government restrictions prohibit the resumption of inperson teaching activities, courses will revert to remote teaching. In the event of such a change, Teaching Assistants will be advised as soon as possible. Teaching Assistants may be required to perform tasks suited to a remote/online teaching environment using a virtual learning platform [e.g., Zoom, WebEx] and the McGill MyCourses learning management system._
