Dr. Dabdoub's laboratory focuses on discovering and elucidating the molecular signalling pathways responsible for the neurodevelopment of the inner ear.

The goal is to connect the developmental biology of the inner ear to diseases and ultimately to regenerative medicine for the amelioration of hearing loss and balance disorders.


Key Responsibilities

  • Must be willing to work with cells, viruses, bacteria, mice, human samples, and tissue processing for histology.
  • Must be willing to occasionally work evenings and weekends if necessary for experiments/animals.
  • Must be able to work with chemicals and biological hazards.

Qualifications

  • A BSc. degree or higher with 3+ years of job experience.
  • Experience in animal handling, husbandry and colony maintenance, including but not limited to the reproduction and maintenance of mutant mouse strains (setting up breeding pairs, ear tagging, genotyping, weaning, retiring of breeders, euthanasia).
  • Generate and update SOPs; renew AUPs.
  • Good organizational skills and the ability to proactively and appropriately facilitate the maintenance of all lab supplies and equipment, maintain steady levels of lab supplies and organize purchasing records.
  • Ability to take initiative and handle responsibility, and demonstrated effective time management skills and ability to organize and maintain a clean laboratory.
  • Knowledge and ability to perform molecular biology and tissue culture research procedures, such as sterile technique, DNA preparation, protein purification, tissue culture, PCR, Western, cloning, bacterial growth, plasmid preparation, immunohistochemistry, and genotyping. Document results.
  • Computer skills: Microsoft Office proficiency, experience with SoftMouse, Quartzy, GraphPad Prism, an asset.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with a strong demonstrated ability to communicate orally and in writing. Possess skills of tact, diplomacy, confidentiality, and flexibility. Ability and willingness to work independently and in a diverse team.
