Working with the Faculty of Science, Let's Talk Science is a national charitable organization with a mandate to improve Science literacy through leadership, innovative educational programs, research and advocacy.

Let's Talk Science Outreach currently operates on 45 university and college campuses coast to coast and is administered locally mainly by student coordinators.

Last year over 914,000 youth interactions in over 55,000 hours by volunteers in 1,767 communities.


Responsibilities:


  • Pair volunteers with teachers at the beginning of the year, and throughout the year as new requests arrive for the Teacher Partnership Program.
  • Recruit teachers in London and surrounding areas if spaces are available.
  • Manage kit and activity bookings for volunteers.
  • Ensure that volunteers fill out a portal log for every classroom visit they perform.
  • Ensure that teachers are informed of both educator evaluations and the youth impact survey to fill out after their visits.
  • Check in with educators at least once per semester for the Teacher Partnership Program.
  • 8. Check in with volunteers at least twice per semester for the Teacher Partnership Program.
  • 9. Encourage and support volunteers who experience issues, and work together to come to a solution.
  • 10. Encourage and support volunteers to go above and beyond their contracts at the schools where they volunteer (i.e. organize a "Science Day" at the school where they volunteer).
  • 11. Encourage and support volunteers who develop new ideas for their visits, with the potential of turning them into permanent activities/resources for the local site. 13. Attend all local Let's Talk Science major events (i.e. socials, volunteer appreciation events, leadership initiatives, etc.).
  • 14. Attend 1 office hour/week.
  • 15. Attend monthly coordinator meetings.
  • 16. Assist with Let's Talk Science communication with the National Office, Western University, and all Let's Talk Science supporters (i.e. writing annual reports).
  • 17. Assist in recruitment and training of new volunteers along with the coordinator team.
  • 18. Assist in the management of various volunteer committees.
  • 19. Assist other coordinators where applicable

Qualifications:


Education:


  • Community College Diploma in an administrative field

Experience:

  • 1 year of experience providing customer service in a business office setting

Skills, Abilities & Expertise:

  • Excellent leadership and management skills
  • Ability to work independently and in group situations
  • Interest in science education
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Excellent organizational skills
  • Enthusiasm and reliability
  • Previous science outreach experience an asset
  • Knowledge of general office procedures including records management systems
  • Ability to establish effective routines for excellent communication with all members of the team to maximize productivity
  • Proven ability and natural inclination to interact with people in professional, respectful and diplomatic manner
  • Selfmotivated multitasker with strong organizational skills
  • Positive, outgoing attitude with genuine customer service orientation
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently, take initiative and follow through on work assignments
  • Familiarity with University policies and procedures preferred
  • Written and verbal communication skills to clearly express ideas in an objective manner, and adapt communication style to suit the situation and audience
  • Customer service skills to understand customer needs and expectations, with a desire to deliver helpful and reliable service to the University community
