Finance Officer

Location:
Métis Nation of Alberta Provincial Head Office, Edmonton AB

Position status:
Full time (40 hrs per week)

The Organization

The Opportunity

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform administrative tasks related to monthend procedures, purchase orders, and AR.
  • Assist with monthly reporting.
  • Correspond with vendors and maintain vendor files.
  • File invoices, purchase orders, and other finance documents.
  • Liaise with MNA directors, Métis National Council (MNC), affiliates, and entities.
  • Provide support for all other corporate duties as assigned.

Skills and Competencies


This position requires a proven level of initiative and judgment in order to organize and prioritize daily tasks and long-term objectives.

Tact, diplomacy, and a commitment to teamwork are required in dealing with colleagues in an everyday working environment.

  • Demonstrated ability to effectively manage and prioritize requests, multitask, and meet tight deadlines.
  • High level of integrity, ethics, and professionalism.
  • Demonstrated ability to think, act, and speak strategically.

  • Demonstrated ability to deal with confidential information.
  • High level of proficiency with spreadsheets.
  • Ability to produce professional documents and reports.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office or other applicable software.
  • Current working knowledge of SAGE 300 (ACCPAC) is an asset.
  • Knowledge of Métis culture and history is an asset.

Qualifications

  • A minimum of five years of recent bookkeeping experience.
  • Experience in full cycle accounting.
  • Accounting certificate or diploma.

Other Requirements

  • Ability to work office hours of Monday
  • Friday, 8:30 am 4:30 pm.
  • Able to work evenings and weekends as required for events.
  • Able to travel throughout Alberta on occasion.
  • Must have reliable transportation to and from the office.
