iostha Jock aims to create a physical and visible place on the Macdonald campus where Indigenous students, faculty, and staff who attend McGill's University and John Abbott College feel recognized and valued.

This position is covered by the AMUSE collective agreement.


Position Summary:


As a consultant, you will collaborate and engage with internal and external stakeholders, including Indigenous and non-Indigenous individuals at McGill, Indigenous communities linked to the university, Indigenous students at John Abbott College, and Haudenosaunee and other Indigenous knowledge holders to provide their thoughts and perspectives for the creation of this space and identify opportunities and challenges within the McGill Campuses.

Your role is crucial in realizing our vision of recognition, respect, and collaboration.


The consultancy will be divided into four sections 1) Environmental Scan (75 h), 2) Interview Design (75h), 3) Engagement and Interviews Application (75 h) 4) Report Development (75 h).

We request these 4 stages to be completed as a part time position in 4 months.

Task and responsibilities:

  • Research and document exemplars of Indigenous spaces on University Campuses in Canadian universities.
  • Assess intersections with McGill campus planning and Indigenous Initiatives at McGill.
  • Develop a work plan and collaborate in the development of a semistructured interview guide.
  • Facilitate community engagement activities, including initiating communication and completing interviews and talking circles with Indigenous and nonIndigenous individuals at McGill, Indigenous communities linked to the university, Indigenous students at John Abbott College, Haudenosaunee, and other Indigenous knowledge holders.
  • Develop and synthesize comprehensive reports (project and funding summary reports) based on gathered information.

Requirements/Qualifications

  • Demonstrated experience in project coordination or community engagement.
  • Understanding of Indigenous cultures, protocols, and community dynamics.
  • Experience conducting interviews or talking circles.
  • Strong planning and organizing skills.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Research skills
  • Selfmotivated and able to work independently, as well as within a team setting.
  • High School Diploma with two years of relevant experience in the field of work
