Reporting to one of the Directors - Media Relations, the Manager, Corporate Communications, based in Montreal, will be responsible for developing and implementing of media relations plans and activities that create awareness and enthusiasm for the Corporation's activities and generate earned media coverage in both traditional and social media on a local, national and international scale The Manager, Corporate Communications is a key member of a team overseeing management of integrated corporate news, issues management and corporate reputation.


RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Develop and implement earned media plans that support Air Canada's objectives (Commercial, Network, Product Design, Marketing, Loyalty, Sales)
  • Undertake data analysis to optimize analytical information in support of communication planning and evaluation earned traditional media and social media campaigns as well as issues management, to determine strategies required for management
  • Editor of Air Canada's media room and curator of stories to leverage in support of Air Canada's people and the corporation's accomplishments as well as company news
  • Further develop and implement Air Canada's social media advocates program that amplifies Air Canada's business and commercial initiatives
  • Development of a master Media Relations Communications Plan and coordinated calendar with Marketing and ESG teams
  • Provide strategic advice to senior leadership about the public environment taking into consideration the company's position in traditional media and social media, and participate in integrated communications planning
  • Continue to provide strategic media relations advice to different branches and participate in integrated communications planning
  • Initiate, recommend and implement social media initiatives to support Media Relations objectives, including writing and posting external texts on behalf of the Corporation, in both English and French
  • Lead on travel writer program and negotiate terms with travel writers and bloggers to ensure an appropriate return on investment consistent with Media Relations objectives, and manage their travel arrangements to ensure optimal results.
  • Develop and implement proactive media outreach activities to develop strategic media relationships that generate positive earned media coverage
  • Play an integral role the Corporate Communications crisis communications and issues management team
  • Write engaging and strategic collateral for earned media relations activities ranging from news releases to short media room stories to social media posts
  • Research corporate information in collaboration with a variety of internal stakeholders, ensuring accuracy under tight deadlines, to be used for official external communications, including response to media queries and published surveys.
  • Liaise with external partners such as Canadian and U.S. airports and tourism bureau communicators to publicize commercial initiatives through earned media.
  • Support Global Sales through earned media relations with travel trade and other specialized media (Canada, US and international)
  • Attend marketing and sales events to manage media attendance and relations on site
  • Assist the Directors, Media Relations in supporting Air Canada's Airport operations and customer service teams
  • Corporate Communications pager/oncall responsibility per the team's schedule to be the liaison with SOC for operational issues and media handling as required after hours/on weekends.

Qualifications

  • University degree in Business, Marketing with experience in journalism, a related field in business communications, or strategic public relations. MBA is an asset.
  • At least 3 years of experience in strategic commercial communications and/or public relations management.
  • Exceptional and proven written and oral communication skills with a natural instinct for ensuring accuracy and timeliness.
  • Experience developing strategic, short visual communications through videos that are effective in conveying key corporate messages.
  • Experience in developing communications strategies including writing corporate news releases, developing effective corporate messages across social media platforms; with a keen understanding in new and emerging media trends.
  • Must have ability to undertake data analysis trends, by obtaining, probing and evaluating analytics to measure effectiveness of corporate initiatives, as well as social media and traditional media issues and stories to determine strategic next steps.
  • Proven ability to work well under pressure and with mínimal supervision, and understand Air Canada's constraints and business realities.
