School Clinic is a school clinic program at Unity Health that has a partnership with the Toronto District School Board that includes 3 clinic sites across the GTA that serves 75 feeder schools.

Located in communities that have a high LOI (Learning opportunity Index), these schools support families have increased barriers to access medical care including:
newcomer families, language barriers, they may face unemployment, and experience poverty among other barriers.

The REACH (Research, Equity, Advocacy and Child Health) School Clinic is currently looking for a
Research Assistant I. This position provides organization and administrative support to research projects at a basic level.

Tasks may include collecting and recording data, limited processing of data, basic laboratory procedures (if applicable), screening of study participants (if applicable), labeling and shipping samples and study related material.


Duties & Responsibilities:


  • Performing general office duties e.g. filing, faxing, mailings, courier services, photocopying, etc. related to a specific clinic program they are leading
  • Maintaining supplies and keeping inventory of what supplies are required to run the research intervention
  • Interacting with research program leads to update progress and plan for future steps
  • Performing welldefined, experiments, or other procedures
  • Entering data into REDcap
  • Collecting, transcription and entry of study related data
  • Meeting with relevant personnel to arrange for implementation of research program, train program leads, liase with participants for consent, conducting data collection, continued attendance and any issues they encounter while participating in the program

Qualifications:


  • Undergraduate Degree or 1 year of relevant experience OR demonstrable equivalent combination of specialized education and experience
  • Basic computer skills, particularly database, spreadsheet and word processing
  • Demonstrated knowledge of how to conduct a research project and support leading a clinic program
  • Knowledge about the education system including background in education leadership
  • Excellent communication (verbal/written) and interpersonal skills are necessary
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Ability to lead a team of personnel to implement a research intervention
  • Excellent attention to detail and proven ability to learn new skills
  • Excellent organizational skills to manage multiple tasks in a timely manner and flexibility to adapt to changing workload
  • Able to keep written records
  • Consenting patients to participate in research project, collecting research questionnaires, following up with participants to support them through the research process
  • Able to clearly understand written and verbal directions and execute tasks independently with a high level of ability
