What can I expect to do in this role?: You will:

  • coordinate and prepare samples for analysis and testing
- conduct quality checks on solutions and consumables
- organize and schedule the use of equipment and tests
- assist colleagues in reviewing modification methods and in developing new modification methods
- perform complex preparations on special and custom samples
- determine analytical schedules and priorities and obtain job sheets for samples to be analyzed
- perform specific analytical tests using established methods and procedures
- archive and dispose of samples
- perform routine maintenance service and repair of instruments and equipment


How do I qualify?:


Technical expertise:


  • You have a college degree in chemical technology from a recognized community college or technical institute or you have the equivalent experience in chemistry and earth sciences.
  • You understand the basic fundamentals of geological, chemical and related materials to ensure proper preparations of samples.
  • You have an understanding of ISO 9001:2008 and ISO 17025:2005.

Analytical and evaluation skills:


  • You use your analytical, evaluative skills and logic when preparing samples for analysis.
  • You can determine the appropriate standard or alternatives for preparation procedures.
  • You can diagnose and resolve errors in solution preparation procedures.
  • Using your analytical and evaluation skills, you can evaluate the impacts, cost implications and consumption of resources to determine appropriate dissolution/digestion methods and to improve the quality of results achieved.
  • You can effectively record and report analytical data.
  • You are able to prepare documentation such as Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and technical reports.

People skills:


  • You use your interpersonal skills when dealing and communicating with staff, clients and vendors.

Organizational and time management skills:


  • You are able to schedule and prioritize your work to ensure work is completed accurately and efficiently.
  • You maintain a clean and well organized environment.
  • You can successfully manage multiple and changing priorities to achieve turnaround times.

Computer skills:


  • You have knowledge of word processing and spreadsheets.
  • You have experience using custom laboratory instruments and data processing programs.
