Through this branch, Alpha College offers quality training to domestic and international students in their desired discipline and has a partnership with St.

Lawrence College. Following the St.

Lawrence curriculum, each semester is designed to meet the challenges unique to international students and exceed academic expectations through a combination of theory and hands-on experience.


The Role:

Reporting to the Academic Operations Manager, the Academic Advisor supports the faculty and academic team at Alpha College. This role supports quality assurance of courses to ensure they are in alignment with St. Lawrence, along with assisting in faculty observations, schedule coordination, and supporting students through coordinating academic concerns.


Student Support:


  • Develop and implement frontline advising services for our international student body, namely oneonone advising sessions inperson and online with students.
  • Provide guidance to students on how to succeed, and act as liaison between faculty and students.
  • Support academic team with student issues including academic dishonesty, poor classroom behaviour, medical notes, appeals, etc.
  • Assist with the student appeal process, ensuring impartiality and confidentiality;
  • Assist with the student complaint process, ensuring they are recorded and resolved, liaising with St. Lawrence College when required for serious issues.
  • Assist in the upkeep and implementation of academic policies, operational procedures and program requirements for several programs.
  • Maintain detailed notes on student incidents in database.
  • Assist on program and academic matters including: program/course registration, program transfers/credits, dropping/adding courses, plagiarism policy information, etc.
  • Actively participate in student functions such as orientation and convocation.
  • Help invigilate and administer midterm and final exams.
  • Participate in events that promote student engagement and academic success including student events and workshops; and
  • Additional duties as assigned.

Faculty Support:


  • Provide all material, outlines, equipment and textbooks for new and existing faculty to ensure they have everything necessary to effectively deliver their lectures;
  • Provide ongoing training and support to new (and existing) faculty, ensuring they're comfortably and effectively adapting Alpha's operations and policies;
  • Record faculty attendance, compiling lateness and absenteeism data, as well as prepare report on number of hours for payroll;
  • Work closely with Academic Managers to assist with the development and execution of Alpha's academic QA process;
  • Support the preparation of material and present at student and faculty orientations;
  • Manage the textbook process, tracking inventory and ensuring textbooks are up to date;
  • Assist in performing Instructor Observations and providing feedback for improvement;
  • Support the development and implementation of academic policies to improve academic integrity and ensure all faculties are up to date with these policies and procedures;
  • Collect and evaluate Lesson Plans with Academic Managers to ensure quality standards and all requirements are being met, make suggestions as required;
  • Maintain detailed notes on faculty incidents in database;
  • Collect and examine Course Portfolios at the end of each semester ensuring quality standards are always being met;
  • Assist in the course selection process for faculty based on indepth research of each course and of each faculty member's background and expertise;
  • Draft new forms, both academic and general operations, consulting credible sources to ensure they are drafted professionally as required;
  • Additional duties as assigned.

Education and Experience:


  • Bachelor's degree from a recognized postsecondary institution
  • Experience in student life programing in postsecondary educational environment
  • Experience working with international students is a plus
8 hour shift

Monday to Friday, in-person.
