This posting is for one (1) Full-Time Temporary position ending six (6) months from the start date_**The Edmonton Police Service requires one (1) highly organized and competent Electronic Surveillance Monitor to work in the Investigative Services Section.
The major responsibilities of this position will involve:
- Hooking up necessary equipment to initiate court approved intercepts.
- Monitoring Court Authorized Interceptions of Private Communications (wiretaps) and compiling comprehensive and accurate logs on each communication.
- Assessing information and ensuring all pertinent information is passed on to investigators. (Prohibiting discussions with anyone other than the exemptions described in Section 193 of the Criminal Code).
- Occasionally appearing in court as a witness.
- Liaise with EPS members and other agencies regarding Part VI authorizations.
- Ensuring recording equipment is functioning properly.
- Implementing procedures to activate Transmission Data Recorders.
- Assisting with the training of personnel.
- Typing of verbatim transcripts.
- Handling of exhibits.
- Performing other related assignments as required.
Qualifications:
- A minimum of three (3) years progressively responsible police operational experience, including general office procedures and word processing.
- Current experience with operation of audio collection systems would be considered an asset.
- Demonstrated ability to handle sensitive and confidential information in a professional and responsible manner.
- Demonstrated ability in reacting appropriately and calmly in emergent and highly stressful situations.
- Familiarity of Part VI of the Criminal Code of Canada would be considered an asset.
- Applicants may be tested.
- Applicants will be required to submit to a polygraph examination.
- As part of your prehire screening you will be required to complete an Enhanced Security Clearance. Should you accept employment with the Edmonton Police Service you acknowledge and agree to participate in future Enhanced Security Re-Clearances at scheduled intervals or in any other circumstances, exigent or otherwise, as required by Human Resources Division.
Hours of Work:
40 hours per week with rotating 10-hour shifts, Monday through Sunday (e.g., 07:00-17:00 hours, and 17:00-03:00 hours). 24-hour coverage may be necessary on short notice.
Salary Range:
21B,
Salary Grade: 016, $ $36.57 (Hourly), $2, $2, Bi-weekly), $61, $76, Annually).
The rates quoted are in accordance with a collective agreement between the Union and the City of Edmonton.
