Reporting to the Director, RBC Centre for Emerging Artists & Designers and working in close collaboration with partners both inside and outside of the University, the Coordinator, Experiential Learning facilitates enhanced and reciprocally beneficial partnerships between the University and community and/or industry partners in support of providing experiential learning opportunities for OCAD University (OCAD U) students.

Fostering positive relationships among industry and community agency partners, faculty, and students, the Coordinator will supervise program staff, assist in the development and maintenance of an integrated vision and plan for Work-Integrated and Experiential Learning (WI/EL), including curricular and co-curricular opportunities and related programming.

The Coordinator connects curricular programs with co-curricular learning opportunities in a strategic, cohesive and forward-looking fashion in support of emerging artists, designers and related professionals and works as an integrated member of the RBC Centre for Emerging Artists & Designers team.


Summary of Responsibilities:


  • Under the guidance of the Director, RBC Centre for Emerging Artists & Designers, implement a plan associated with the Work-Integrated and Experiential Learning strategy, as derived from the University's Academic Plan
  • Supervise Experiential Learning program staff as required
  • Establish a partnership plan associated with continuous outreach and reciprocal relationship stewardship
  • Support all forcredit Experiential Learning, particularly placements, at the undergraduate and graduate student level, which includes significant collaboration with faculty
  • Meet regularly with students for the purposes of their earlycareer advancement in the context of experiential learning
  • Assess proposals for partnerships between companies/community agencies and OCAD U and involve program chairs, faculty and others as needed to create tangible opportunities for students
  • Participate in the development of collaborative projects/programs that will serve community needs as well as meet curriculum objectives
  • Implement a rigorous risk management and evaluation process for all Experiential Learning Placements, and ensure the University is current with labour and employment legislation
  • Meet regularly with students, community partners, faculty, and staff to discuss issues and plan for ongoing improvements
  • Support the operation, promotion and ongoing development of the Talent Network, OCAD U's student and alumni job board, which details experiential learning and employment opportunities on and offcampus, internships, international opportunities, volunteer and oncampus involvement opportunities
  • Create materials, presentations and various resources on Experiential Learning for partner organizations, faculty and students
  • Develop promotional strategies and materials to encourage full student participation in experiential learning
  • As part of the Centre for Emerging Artists & Designer's team, advise students in finding opportunities appropriate to their goals and needs and in positioning experiences for career growth
  • Assist the Director in related functions contributing to the successful operation of the RBC Centre for Emerging Artists & Designers portfolio

Qualifications:


  • Graduate degree, with a focus in art or design preferred, with a minimum of four (4) years relevant work experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Experience with implementing experiential learning theory, practices and models in the higher education and/or community sector_s, _as well as postsecondary student development
  • Experience in development and operation of sophisticated database systems required
  • Demonstrated strength in project management, organization, evaluation and reporting
  • Knowledge of OCAD University, its administrative and academic structure, programs and requirements an asset
  • Proven track record of productive relationship development resulting in quantifiable outcomes
  • Ability to build rapport and work collaboratively with students, faculty and staff
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills and strong selfmanagement skills
  • Demonstrated ability to exercise tact, good judgement, and diplomacy
  • Demonstrated attention to detail, and the ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines
  • Demonstrated ability to take initiative and work independently and participate collaboratively in a team environment
