Job Title:
Laboratory Supervisor

Basic Purpose:


  • Maximizes human, equipment and financial resources and ensures that they are used appropriately.
  • Facilitates the production of high quality defensible data, safely and on time by abiding by all internal quality and safety policies.
  • Organizes, trains and directs staff to maintain a good working environment and ensures continuous improvement in productivity and efficiency.
  • Ensures Staff are in full compliance to company ethics, quality, traceability and safety requirements.

Key Accountability/Responsibilities:


  • Adheres to the Bureau Veritas Code of Ethics Policy
  • Coordinates requests or recommends resource planning e.g. need for additional staff or equipment.
  • Elevates significant & complex resource issues to Manager.
  • Monitors lab supplies and equipment.
  • With the Management Team, helps develops strategic plans with the objective of preparing the department for continued growth.
  • Develops and nurtures ongoing relationships with colleagues in Sales, Customer Service, QA and other internal departments.
  • Leads and develops staff including responsibility for recruitment of new employees, setting objectives, evaluating performance and expectations, coaching and mentoring, working jointly with employees in the development of their career path, ensuring that adequate training is provided.
  • Develops and maintains a positive work environment for employees.
  • Acts as technical resource for Manager, Client Services and staff.
  • Ensures that employees are following SOPs and works to reduce nonconformances.
  • Provides information, instructions, and assistance to all staff in order to protect the health and safety of employees.
  • Leads by example.
  • Acts as a positive change agent in supporting Bureau Veritas' new initiatives (operational and cultural).
  • Supports and complies with all Bureau Veritas policies including the Quality System and Health & Safety programs.
  • Participates in/performs internal and external audits.

Skills:


  • Accurately follows Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and other instructions.
  • Assesses problems and recommends solutions.
  • Excellent uptodate knowledge of laboratory processes.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office and Laboratory Information Management Systems (LIMS).

Minimum Qualifications:


  • Demonstrated success in a leadership role.
  • 35 years of experience in related environment.

Education:


  • B.Sc. or technical diploma and equivalent experience.

Working Conditions:


  • May involve long periods of standing.
  • Some lifting and carrying (up to 10 kgs).
  • Requires flexible working hours, overtime and shift work.
  • Hazardous materials are handled using established safety procedures and appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE).
