Emergency preparedness is a critical aspect of CCH operations. It is essential that all staff and physicians receive training and understand their roles and responsibilities in this field.


Summary of responsibilities:


In collaboration with the surgical nursing staff, Chief of Surgery, Director and interdisciplinary team, plans, coordinates, directs, and controls the activities of the Inpatient Surgical Unit and Ambulatory Surgical Clinics, Total Joint Assessment Clinic, and Bundled Care Clinic to ensure efficient and effective delivery of in-patient, out-patient services to surgical patients.

Develops, creates and implements Clinical policies. Responsible for managing staff and budget.

Takes measures to ensure proper utilization of the surgical beds and available resources as well as embody a culture of caregiver inclusion in the patient's plan of care.

Manages Med/Surg, and Surgical Outpatient ambulatory clinics working collaboratively with the Director, physicians and team.


Requirements of the job:


  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing
  • Holds current Certificate of Competence from the College of Nurses of Ontario
  • Nursing supervisory or management experience
  • Recent related clinical experience
  • Familiar with medicalsurgical equipment, diabetic insulin pumps
  • Excellent people, time management, conflict management, financial management and organization skills
  • Demonstrated ability to manage numerous and diverse activities, organizing and prioritizing appropriately to meet demands and expectations
  • Demonstrated ability to analyze, problem solve and make recommendations for change and implement and evaluate
  • Computer literacy (MS Office, Excel, Outlook, databases, scheduling)
  • Demonstrated commitment to patient safety
  • Knowledge of collective agreements and experience working in a unionized environment
  • Functional proficiency in English, oral and written

Asset:

  • Master's degree in a health related field
  • Functional level in oral French
