  • The Dallaire Institute for Children, Peace and Security (Dallaire Institute) was established in 2007 by retired Lieutenant-General the Honourable Roméo Dallaire, former Force Commander of the United Nations Assistance Mission for Rwanda (UNAMIR). Our mission is to develop new strategies and tactics to progressively end the recruitment and use of children as soldiers worldwide.

Job Summary

  • Reporting to the Manager of Methodologies and Curriculum, the Training Coordination Officer will be responsible for supporting the coordination, planning, knowledge management, and logistics of Dallaire Institute's domestic and international programmatic work, in particular training workshops. They will also contribute to the maintenance and development of the Dallaire Institute's roster of trainers and related engagement activities. The Training Coordination Officer will have a strong working relationship with all Dallaire Institute staff members and will work with a diverse network of training facilitators around the world.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop, maintain, and regularly disseminate a Dallaire Institute training calendar through regular communication with Dallaire Institute colleagues.
  • Prepare a training checklist for each training activity, ensuring that teams involved in training are aware of what needs to be done through continual communication and followup.
  • Support the Operations Team and colleagues in field offices, as necessary, to ensure that trainers and Dallaire Institute colleagues who are traveling for training have their visas, air tickets, accommodations, security checks, and all other necessary logístical arrangements for travel.
  • Collect and track key data from training and other programmatic activities in a designated database, ensuring that it is updated following each training activity.
  • Assist with knowledge and file management for training and other programmatic activities including assisting Dallaire Institute colleagues in relation to the collection, storage, and use of trainingrelated data.
  • Assist in tracking progress towards Dallaire Institute quality benchmarks.

Note

The successful applicant will be eligible for hybrid work (a combination of in-person work on campus and remote work) as agreed by all parties based on operational requirements and university guidelines.

Dalhousie's vaccine mandate has been suspended at this time, and employees no longer need to provide proof of full vaccination.

Required Qualifications

  • Undergraduate degree in international development, political science, education, management, or related field.
  • Excellent organizational and multitasking skills, with demonstrated ability to work within tight deadlines for multiple competing priorities.
  • A high level of attention to detail and the ability to creatively problem solve and anticipate challenges.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word and PowerPoint.
  • Ability to demonstrate sensitivity, respect for diversity, emotional intelligence, confidentiality, tact, and diplomacy.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills to build and maintain relationships with stakeholders of various levels.
  • Strong verbal and written English communication skills.

Assets

  • Experience in training/event coordination, project management, or knowledge management
  • Certification in project management.
  • Professional working proficiency in other languages, especially French and Spanish.
