RESEARCH INSTITUTE OF THE MUHC
The Research Institute of the McGill University Health Centre (RI-MUHC) is a world-renowned biomedical and hospital research centre.

Located in Montreal, Quebec, the Institute is the research arm of the McGill University Health Centre (MUHC) affiliated with the Faculty of Medicine at McGill University.

The RI-MUHC is supported in part by the Fonds de recherche du Québec - Santé (FRQS).

Position summary
The Clinical Practice Assessment Unit (CPAU) is a research unit affiliated with the MUHC Department of Medicine.

The CPAU works in concert with the Canadian Medication Appropriateness and Deprescribing Network (CADeN- a national research organization working to reduce harm by improving medication appropriateness) and with the Accelerating Clinical Trials in Canada (ACT) Consortium.

We are seeking a Communications Officer to lead communication efforts for CADeN and ACT.

In this dual role you will provide essential support for the promotion of 2 national health campaigns: 1) medication appropriateness for older adults and 2) accelerating clinical trials in Canada.

You will be responsible for external communications to members of the public, the scientific community, and policy makers as well as internal communiqués between network members and consortium members.

As the Communications Officer, you will report directly to the Scientific Director of CADeN (Dr.

McDonald), with and to the Assistant Director of CADeN (Camille Gagnon) as well as the ACT Consortium Program Director (Nicole Yada).

General Duties


As the communications officer, you will:

  • Draft, strategize, manage, and implement communication efforts as part of 2 national public health campaigns on 1) medication safety (40%) and 2) accelerating clinical trials in Canada (40%), this includes supporting the roll-out of Network/Consortium operations (as they pertain to communication),
  • Help with the planning and coordination of inperson events (20%),

Master's Degree


Field of Study:
Communications, social sciences, journalism, or related fields


Other education considered an asset for this position: Health sciences


Work Experience: 12 months experience is an asset but not required

Other requirements:


  • Experience with website design (Webflow),
  • Outstanding English writing and communication skills,
  • Ability to develop communications in multiple mediums, including written communications and PowerPoint/PREZI (or similar) presentations,
  • Excellent computer skills (e.g. ability to create attractive documents in Microsoft Word, professional PowerPoint presentations, graphs in Excel),
  • Experience working with online and social media platforms,
  • Experience with InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop, MailChimp and Squarespace,
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, with the ability to work with the general public, health care professionals, researchers and community/health organizations,
  • Demonstrated experience and sensitivity in working with diverse communities an asset,
  • Ability to handle multiple programs and/or priorities simultaneously,
  • English/French bilingualism an asset,
