Medical Information Specialist


The Medical Information (MI) Specialist is a head-office-based professional with scientific and therapeutic area expertise responsible for providing medical and scientific support for the Bayer Inc.

Consumer Health portfolio and products.

The MI Specialist provides scientifically accurate and balanced medical information to both Healthcare Professionals (HCPs) and patients and carries out the day-to-day MI operations.

Bayer is committed to a flexible hybrid working environment. This is a 20-month term contract position based out of Mississauga, Ontario.


What you will do:


  • Maintain MI repositories with local information e.g. artworks of product labelling, product price lists, backorder reports.
  • Coordinate & respond to Medical Information inquiries about local products or those requiring involvement from local functions e.g. legal, Pharmacovigilance, Quality Assurance, Regulatory Affairs, Medical Affairs and external parties e.g manufacturing sites.
  • Maintenance of local FAQs to support local products (i.e. not a global product) and local MI related training.
  • Triage inquiries required to be managed by the local Bayer organization including but not limited to inquiries with a legal tone, CMC inquiries, Complex Safety Inquiries, etc.
  • Notification to Medical Information Contact Center (MICC) of annual national holidays (to support the telephony setup and MICC Representative availability).
  • As a local superuser, maintain System Management:
  • Management of any locally owned MI digital assets.
  • Conduct system management activities of the global MI system.
  • Work with crossfunctional teams to resolve inquiries received via MI.
  • Provide thirdparty call centre oversight through regular touchpoints and discuss any finding, requirements, or updates.
  • Report adverse events and product technical complaints to Bayer Inc. Pharmacovigilance and Quality Assurance, respectively.
  • Lead and maintain the creation/revision of medical information training tools or work instructions.
  • Ensure local audit & inspection readiness for Medical Information.
  • Ensure GEMI are informed of local MI regulations and laws including data privacy, support GMI to ensure adherence to local regulatory, legal and governance requirements.
  • Support GEMI to ensure global workflows and knowledge objects (KO) are maintained to adhere to local governance and regulatory requirements (including RMM requirements, disclaimers etc.)
  • Ensure business continuity for local MI responsibilities
  • Participate in audits and QC activities that support compliance to Bayer SOPs and industry guidelines and be audit ready.
  • Identify trends from medical information requests and share crossfunctionally.
  • Participate in crossfunctional activities (i.e. assist with sales training, review of grids and drafting responses for use by external digital vendor with alignment from regulatory/marketing).
  • Support all MI QC as per SOP requirement of thirdparty vendors; MI spot checks, 4eye reviews, BCP testing, social media QC.
  • Creation and maintenance of MICC training of local codes of practice/regulations, local data privacy requirements.
  • Training of Bayer nonMI staff on an annual basis in the recognition and forwarding of medical inquiries.
  • Handle local MI governance requirements, e.g implementation of any process change, creation of local process flows when required.
  • Participate in product recalls with cross functional teams to handle MI related responsibilities.
  • Work with GEMI on relevant MI projects, e.g process standardization.
  • Handle all MI requirement for third party social media vendor, e.g MI module training update and maintenance, QC checks.
  • Other duties as deemed necessary by management.

Who you are:


  • Degree in life sciences or a health professional (BSc, MSc, Ph.
D., MD, pharmacy, nursing).

  • Minimum 2 years' experience in Medical Information or Medical Affairs.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, with attention to detail, for communication with external customers.
  • High comfort level and experience with CRM or MI systems and managing digital assets.
  • Willingness to take initiative, while maintaining flexibility and adapting to changing priorities.
  • Good knowledge of the Canadian Pharmaceutical Industry.
  • Strong organizational skills.
