About Canucks Autism Network (CAN)


Canucks Autism Network (CAN) is a charitable organization dedicated to providing programs for individuals on the autism spectrum and their families, while promoting acceptance and inclusion through community engagement and training initiatives across BC.

Our vision is for every individual on the autism spectrum to be understood, accepted, and supported in all community spaces.


We engage a workforce of over 200 volunteers and 450 frontline staff to deliver programs for children, youth, and adults on the spectrum in communities across British Columbia.

Since its inception in 2008, CAN has directly impacted over 8,000 members on the autism spectrum.


About the Position


Reporting to the Senior Manager of Children's Programs, the Regional Coordinator oversees the planning, implementation management and evaluation of CAN programs and events in their region.

They are responsible for identifying and fostering relationships with various community partners, advising on the strategic priorities and community needs in the area, representing CAN in the community, and leading the recruitment, hiring, training, and supervision of regional staff and volunteers, among other various tasks.


Key Functions (Main aspects of position)

Program Coordination and Oversight

  • Oversee the daytoday operations and activities and be the primary point of contact for CAN within the region
  • Coordinate with manager to identify regional needs and make recommendations of program goals and a corresponding annual budget to manage and monitor
  • Plan seasonal program schedules based on CAN's regional budget and strategic priorities
  • Book and be the primary contact for facilities to host CAN programs and events
  • Manage all CAN assets in the region, including the maintenance of regional staff, participant, and general records, as well as the organization, inventory and storage of program and event equipment
  • Visit programs and events periodically to support staff, interact with members and ensure quality control (support strategies, safety, etc.)
  • Work closely with other departments and meet deadlines to provide regional program details for promotional material, program guides, annual reports, and social media posts.
  • Assist with the planning, staffing, equipment and execution of seasonal social opportunities and events for families in the region
  • Collaborate with other Coordinators and departments to evaluate programs seasonally to identify delivery gaps, program challenges and curriculum needs

Staff and Volunteer Management and Training

  • Supervise and provide leadership and support to CAN program staff and volunteers in the region to ensure they are delivering CAN programs to the highest standard
  • Determine the number of staff and volunteers needed for programs
  • Recruit new staff and fill vacancies by sharing job postings with local networks, conducting interviews, applicant reference checks, and criminal record checks
  • Support the Training department to ensure new program staff are onboarded and that mandatory training requirements are successfully completed
  • Support the Training department by delivering seasonal training to returning staff and new hires via Zoom
  • Act as primary contact and support for Onsite Supervisors; assist in navigating CAN processes, sensitive member conversations and opportunities for mentorship and professional growth.
  • Collaborate with HR department to manage staff performance issues and address concerns regarding policies, procedures and expectations of program staff and volunteers
  • Support HR and Training departments to identify skill and knowledge gaps in staff and volunteers and make recommendations for training
  • Lead seasonal program staff placement process and determine staffing needs based on CAN program guidelines
  • Support Onsite Supervisors to provide mentorship and performance feedback on a regular basis to program staff and volunteers

Community Partnerships and Training

  • Build and maintain community partnerships to support CAN activities in the region
  • Support the Training department to deliver Autism training throughout the region
  • Be an ambassador for the organization by attending CAN programs and events in the region and representing CAN at community events
  • Meet with community partners as needed to support program, events and experiences, and funding opportunities
  • Develop and maintain meaningful relationships with program partners in the region, including facilities, likeminded organizations, government, donors, families, and program facilitators

Administration & Other Duties

  • Participate and represent CAN at events in the region, as needed
  • Contribute as a member of the CAN Programs team to additional proj
