GENERAL ACCOUNTABILITY

  • The Financial Analyst is responsible for reviewing monthly, quarterly, annual financial information and performing financial analysis providing internal/external decision makers and stakeholders information which drives informed decisionmaking at a strategic level. The successful applicant will be immersed in the claims accounting cycle and assist with preparing financial statement information, note disclosures, and returns for regulatory agencies.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES

Accounting & Financial Controls- Identifies opportunities to create new or updated policies and procedures to ensure decision makers receive timely, accurate and relevant financial information to inform and drive business decisions. Supports the development, maintenance and testing of new and/or enhanced financial systems and reporting. Provides support as needed to the Accounting Standards Specialist on accounting related issues (i.e. accounting policies, procedures and position papers, research new reporting requirements, CICA Handbook changes, etc.). Reviews accounting variances regularly to determine where explanations are required and who provides them.

Reporting & Analysis- Reviews monthly, quarterly, annual financial reports and performs financial analysis for internal decision makers (Manager, Director, VP, CFO, ELT, Board) and outside stakeholders (e.g.

CIC, Ministry of Finance, rating organizations, regulators). Prepares written and financial analysis (i.e. information items and decision items) to internal decisions makers and external stakeholders to aid in driving informed decision making at a strategic level. Prepares financial reports, statements and schedules for internal and external reporting (i.e. financial statements, note disclosures, management discussion & analysis (MD&A) documents, budget documents, forecasts, returns for regulatory agencies, etc.) Supports and provides information to internal auditors including analysis during CEO/CFO certification process and other internal audits. Supports and provides information to external auditors including analysis during year-end audits.

Demonstrates that the Health, Safety and Emergency Management Policy is applied in area of responsibility for self and others.- TECHNICAL KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS- Knowledge of the methods, techniques and procedures used in financial analysis (i.e. research and statistical, etc.).Ability to present, communicate, and answer questions on technical information in a manner that enables understanding by non-technical audiences. Knowledge of insurance theory as it relates to work requirements.
EDUCATION & CERTIFICATIONS- Four-year degree from an accredited post-secondary education institution in a relevant field of study such as Business, or defined equivalency. A Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) designation.
EXPERIENCE years of directly related experience in a senior level accounting role.


Pay Range:
$76, $96,672.00
