Late Cook





REPORTING TO:
Food Services Supervisor/ Director





DEPARTMENT:
Food Services


POSITION PURPOSE:


The Cook is a member of the Food Services Team and will be responsible for providing high quality meal and food services to the residents of the Glebe Centre.

Working with the Director of Food Services and the Nutritional Supervisor, the Cook with follow standardized practices and procedures to provide safe, attractive and nourishing meals to Residents.


QUALIFICATIONS:


  • Must have Red Seal Chef or Culinary Management Diploma or Chef Training Certification
  • Current safe food handling certificate, knowledge of quantity food production.
  • Experience in healthcare, optimally Long Term Care operations.
  • Welldeveloped English language skills, comprehension, oral and written.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:


  • Knowledge of WHMIS and MSDS, fall protection and chemical use instruction.
  • Flexibility and the ability to work well under pressure in a kitchen environment.
  • A high degree of initiation and ability to work well with minimum supervision.
  • Ability to safely lift 50 pounds.
  • Ability to stand and walk for long periods of time.
  • Demonstrates a commitment to courteous, sincere, and sensitive customer service. Presents a positive and caring attitude in all interactions. Shows patience, tolerant, accepts diversity, and presents a positive image of themselves in all professional interactions.
  • Ability to work in a culturally diverse environment.
  • Knowledge and skills on preparing a variety of menu items from scratch, along with modified textured versions for residents on therapeutic diets.

FUNCTIONS:


  • Directs dietary care of residents with basic nutrition needs including screening, preparing and serving safe, nutritious and appealing meals.
  • In the absence of the Nutritional Supervisor, the Cook will be required to provide direction to the Food Services Team and is responsible to assure the operation is efficiently following set standards.
  • Ensures residents receive proper diet as per care plan & special menus.
  • Preparing caterings as required.
  • Maintaining work area in a clean, orderly and sanitary condition.
  • Maintaining inventory of work area.
  • Setting up and clearing kitchen work areas.
  • Putting away food orders.
  • Following proper storage guidelines.
  • Complies with W.H.M.I.S procedures.
  • Updates Director, Supervisor and Dietitian with any concerns.
  • Maintain a cooperative relationship among home area teams by communicating information, respond to requests, building rapport and participating in team meetings and problemsolving methods.
  • Maintains knowledge by attending educational and participating in inhouse inservices including Surge Learning and mandatory training.
  • Uphold and promote the organization's values and philosophy relating particularly to ethics, morality, and integrity as set out in The Glebe Centre's ethical and Professional Codes of Conduct.
  • Other job related duties as required.

HOURS OF WORK:
As scheduled
(9:30 am-5:30 pm)

SALARY LEVEL:
As per CUPE Agreement

Education:


  • AEC / DEP or Skilled Trade Certificate (preferred)

  • Cooking: 1 year (preferred)

Language:


  • English (preferred)

Licence/Certification:

  • Food Handler Certification (preferred)
  • Food Safe, SafeCheck, Food Handler or equivalent (preferred)

Shift availability:
