Wesgroup is poised for significant growth over the next few years and in preparation for this exciting and challenging phase, we are actively seeking a highly engaged, detailed-oriented and experienced Manager, Payroll & Benefits to join our team.


Reporting to the Director, Corporate Accounting, the Manager, Payroll and Benefits will be responsible for overseeing and managing all aspects of payroll and associated compliance, and employee benefit programs for multiple entities within the Wesgroup structure.


Key Accountabilities:


  • Set clear goals and expectations with direct reports, regularly monitor progress, provide constructive feedback, and conduct performance reviews.
  • Oversee and manage the payroll and benefits operations and provide leadership and training to the team.
  • Hold ownership of all aspects of payroll processing and reporting, ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and compliance with relevant laws and regulations.
  • Administer and maintain employee benefits programs, including health insurance, retirement plans, vacation, and other employee perks.
  • Communicate payroll and benefits information to employees, address queries and provide guidance on enrollment processes.
  • Collaborate with the People and Culture Team to manage and maintain accurate employee records, including new hires, terminations, and compensation and employment status changes.
  • Work closely with the Corporate Accounting Team to upload and reconcile compensation and benefits transactions into Yardi on a regular and timely basis.
  • Generate payroll reports and analyses as needed for management.
  • Participate in the development and implementation of new payroll and benefits policies and procedures.
  • Maintain professional and technical knowledge and stay up to date with changes in payroll and benefits laws, regulations, and best practices.
  • Foster relationships and collaborate with external stakeholders, such as vendors managing benefits programs and payroll systems, and government and account representatives.
  • Perform additional duties as required.

Qualifications, Knowledge & Experience:


  • PCP or PLP Certification with the National Payroll Institute.
  • Proven experience (5+ years) in payroll management and benefits administration, including at the manager level.
  • Knowledge of accounting principles and practices.
  • Previous experience with Ceridian Dayforce (an asset).
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Excellent time management and organizational skills.
