The Department of Ecology & Evolutionary Biology (EEB) is one of the largest departments of its kind in North America, with internationally renowned and award-winning faculty.

We strive to provide the necessary context, expertise and guidance on pressing challenges that face society today, including combating global climate change and saving rare and endangered species.

Our department is a world leader in the discipline in discovery, innovation and teaching.


This particular position is within the U of T Trash Team, a science-based community outreach organization aimed at increasing waste literacy to reduce plastic pollution.

The U of T Trash Team is an organization fueled by students and early-career researchers working locally to increase public awareness, increase understanding about waste management and pollution, and cleanup litter.

This particular position will coordinate our school programs, where we teach about plastic pollution to school-aged students, and social science programs, where we interview the public and businesses to learn more about the generation of waste and solutions that maybe effective through behavioral change.


Your responsibilities will include:


  • Responding to enquiries within the defined scope of the role and redirecting as appropriate
  • Disseminating program and/or service information
  • Liaising with internal and external contacts to coordinate execution of seminars and workshops
  • Determining logístical details and activities for events and/or programming
  • Liaising with stakeholders to coordinate space and resource requirements
  • Writing summary reports on programs and services
  • Coordinating recruitment and training processes
  • Updating and maintaining records

Essential Qualifications:


  • Advanced College Diploma (3 years) in Social Sciences or acceptable combination of equivalent experience.
  • Minimum three years recent and related experience in administrative and program support in a higher education setting.
  • Experience designing surveys, interviews and understanding people's behaviour.
  • Experience mentoring student specific student data.
  • Experience analyzing survey results.
  • Experience coordinating program schedules.
  • Strong knowledge and understanding of plastic pollution and the waste management system.
  • Experience organizing the logistics of events, seminars and workshops.
  • Demonstrated experience coordinating timetable and room bookings.
  • Experience maintaining information on digital platforms.
  • Advanced skills in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook).
  • Strong client service orientation.
  • Excellent communication (oral and written) and interpersonal skills with the ability to promptly respond to inquiries.
  • Excellent organization, time management and decisionmaking abilities.
  • Able to multitask and deal effectively with competing priorities.
