Description

The Patient Care Manager (PCM), Respiratory Therapy and Medical Diagnostics provides leadership to a team of Respiratory Therapists, Diagnostic Technologists, and Administrative staff.


The PCM provides leadership and direction to the Registered Respiratory Therapists (RRTs) and support staff to ensure effective delivery of high quality cardio-respiratory patient care to critical care and general wards.

Responsibilities include clinical and professional practice leadership, participation in planning, delivery and evaluation of services and management of operation efficiencies, resource utilization and the financial budget.

The PCM works collaboratively with other program managers and leaders in decision making processes surrounding patient care delivery, clinical practice, standards of care and hospital-wide initiatives.


Medical Diagnostics provides inpatient and outpatient diagnostic services for cardiology, respirology and neurology testing. The PCM is accountable for leading diagnostic patient care activity, clinical operations, quality assurance and ensuring adherence to accreditation standards.


Accountabilities

Maintaining Responsibility for Patient Care Areas

  • Developing, implementing and leading short and longterm plans which support and advance unit priorities;
  • Hiring competent and qualified multiprofessional personnel and coordinating an orientation program that will foster their success on the unit.
  • Ensuring the provision of excellent care for patients in a manner that is respectful of patient privacy and patient confidentiality; ensuring care requirements are met with appropriate competence and delivery; resolving patientcare issues, problems and concerns, in a timely manner;
  • Managing, motivating and providing professional/clinical leadership to multigenerational/ interprofessional teams; ensuring ongoing practice and professional development of a cohesive team;
  • Implementing processes to ensure the safe, effective and efficient delivery of excellent care to all patients and processes that support involving patients as collaborative partners.

Planning and Operations

  • Develops, implements, manages and reviews short and long term plans for the clinical area(s) which are in alignment with Unity Health's goals and strategies; identifies and prioritizes time sensitive initiatives;
  • Prepares appropriate business plan documents in support of short and long term planning initiatives which supports clinical, financial and human resources needs for the clinical area(s);
  • Monitors progress towards the achievement of goals at regular intervals and takes action, as required to ensure desired outcome is attained, including using, effective change management methodologies and leadership to influence change and innovation;
  • Develops and implements day to day operating policies, systems and procedures to contribute to organizational effectiveness;

Resource Management

  • Develops/establishes work schedules that meet departmental needs, employment standards, and collective agreements; approves vacation schedules and resolves scheduling issues, in a timely manner;
  • Conducts performance management responsibilities, including: implementing effective communication measures to facilitate understanding the differences between the generations; providing ongoing coaching and constructive feedback, in a timely manner;
  • Identifies and manages employee issues/concerns, utilizing appropriate conflict resolution skill, while taking appropriate action to ensure matters are resolved in a fair and timely manner;
  • Provides for team building through regular staff meetings to ensure staff development, promoting an atmosphere that encourages effective teamwork.

Qualifications:


  • Completion of a Master's Degree in Nursing, or recognized equivalent required.
  • Registered Respiratory Therapist or other Regulated Health Professional in good standing with applicable Regulatory College.
  • Minimum of five years' relevant clinical experience and a minimum of three years' leadership experience in an acute care setting.
  • Experience in leading change, building high functioning teams and effective working relationships.
  • Skills in strategic planning, project management, and effective resource management and utilization.
  • Experience managing in a multiunion environment.
  • Ability to successfully work

Job Types:

Salary:
$57.48-$72.55 per hour
