Position Overview The Accounting Manager is a senior member of the Corporate Finance & Accounting Team. This role has financial reporting responsibilities of assigned entities and functional responsibilities across all entities. The Accounting Manager partners with General Managers in ensuring accuracy of regional financial statements and is responsible for accurate and on time execution of assigned functions. The Accounting Manager also plays a key role in preparing quarter and year end audit working papers, responds to audit queries and is the accounting point of contact for operations. This position reports to the Corporate Controller and leads the support members of the Finance and Accounting Team. To ensure reporting deadlines are met, additional hours may be required at month end, quarter end and year end.


Hybrid role, in-office Tuesdays and Wednesdays each week.

Core Job Functions
Core job functions the Accounting Manager will be responsible for include:

  • Preparation and review of regional, entity and VP based financial statements.
  • Financial statement and management report analysis.
  • Review and maintain month end, quarter end schedules and working papers.
  • Work in close coordination and cooperation with all levels of management, operating unit personnel and external auditors.
  • Ensure compliance with International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS).
  • Review of sales tax filings and remittances.
  • Supporting and coordinating Canadian income tax filings and remittances.
  • Review and preparation of bank reconciliations
  • Respond to financial and internal control audits.
  • Preparation, review and analysis of budgets and forecasts.
  • Adhoc analysis and support to the Corporate Controller, Director of Finance and CFO
  • Other duties as assigned

Communications The Accounting Manager ensures that all interactions with both internal and external contacts focus on excellence in customer service and are a positive reflection of highest company standards.


Internal:

  • Internally, this role will communicate with all levels of management within multiple locations in Canada and the US, as well as administrative and accounting staff outside of head office.

Externally:

  • Externally, this role communicates with the following: External Auditors, Tax Authorities, Government Bodies

Education
Professional accounting designation (CPA, CA, CGA or CMA)

Bachelor's degree in Accounting or equivalent


Qualifications

  • Minimum of five years progressive accounting experience, ideally with a public reporting company or in public practice.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal across all levels of the organization.
  • Strong computer skills with proficiency in Microsoft Office and advanced knowledge of Microsoft Excel
  • Good knowledge of IFRS and internal control concepts.
  • Exceptional time management skills and the ability to meet tight deadlines
  • Strong sense of urgency
  • High degree of critical thinking, problem solving and analytical skills
  • Experience working with ERP systems
  • Accuracy and attention to detail
  • Ability to work independently and prioritize tasks
  • Ability to adapt to a fast paced, high growth environment
  • Experience in a public company is an asset

Preferred Qualifications
Experience in a sales/distribution company is an asset
