) Functional Analyst. This position provides complex functional and technical support, project leadership and reporting for the Student Financial Aid and Awards Office (SFAA). Under the direction of the Manager, Student Financial Aid and Awards, this position serves as a systems expert for all systems with focus on the analysis, enhancement, development and implementation of technical solutions that meet the changing needs and priorities of the department and Institute stakeholders related to student financial aid and awards activity at BCIT. The incumbent serves as the main liaison with the BCNET representing the use of the Banner Financial Aid system. The Functional Analyst takes on a leadership role in identification and implementation of new processes and systems, creates and produces a variety of specialized reports and participates in achieving the overall strategic and operational goals of the department.

Financial Aid and Awards Business Processes and Systems

  • Provides leadership for leveraging systems to meet department, student, and Institute needs within the department.
  • Reviews and streamlines business processes for improving work flow, quality control, meeting demand and responding to changing priorities.
  • Analyzes processes; designs and develops data models, procedures and/or systems to maximize efficiencies and maintain data integrity.
  • Liaises, consults and collaborates with department staff, Institute employees at all organizational levels and public sector stakeholders on a variety of systems topics.
  • As a data custodian, provides leadership on data decisions and data integrity including analysis, design and maintenance.
  • Works collaboratively with departmental coordinators to support the development and implementation of annual business processes such as: Institutional Appendix, Awards, and scholarships.
  • Serves as the main contact with the BCNET consultant for the BCIT Financial Aid and Awards Banner modifications

Systems Support, Implementation, Enhancements and Maintenance

  • Ensures reliability, connectivity and efficiency of all departmental systems.
  • Works in collaboration with Information Technology Services (ITS) to provide functional support and direction on modifications and upgrades; advises ITS on business cycles and provides guidance on the timing of upgrades and implementation in order to minimize impact on business operations.
  • Develops, maintains and supports online systems based upon work business improvement processes;
  • Analyzes current systems and researches, evaluates, recommends and implements technical solutions to meet changing needs related to financial aid and awards.
  • Analyzes requests and/or business needs in order to maintain and update all tables, rules and forms; notifies stakeholders of changes or new information.
  • Assesses requests for system changes to determine impact, risk, feasibility and priority.
  • Coordinates and implements hardware and software upgrades and/or new systems.
  • Identifies operational and technical changes required for upgrading enterprise systems; measures impacts to existing modifications.

Reporting

  • Consults with stakeholders to provide direction and options for report design, confirming business process and identifies system and/or data limitations; identifies whether multiple reports are required.
  • Determines business needs, impact of changes, feasibility, priority and complexity of the requests.
  • Implements changes; develops and tests reports to ensure that they adhere to requirements.
  • Creates and maintains reports to identify inaccurate data; corrects data quality issues and coordinates data cleanup; provides detailed specifications to ITS for the development of scripts for batch cleanup; runs reports to verify accuracy once data cleanup activities are complete.
  • Publishes departmental reports for Institute use; creates detailed descriptions of report purposes, prompts and output; assigns security to control report access.
  • Designs and develops complex operational analytical and statistical reports; creates adhoc and custom reports as required.
  • Maintains inventory of all reports and departmental data.
  • Conducts data integrity activities; analyzes and tests data to identify errors, anomalies and data quality issues; verifies that current procedures are being followed; identifies if revisions to procedure are required.
  • Develops manual data cleanup activities and provides detailed instructions to the department for data cleanup.
  • Analyzes requests for new reports and/or modifying existing reports; prioritizes compliancebased requests.
  • Works closely with ITS to provide functional support for catalogue creation and modification.
  • Consults with stakeholders to provide direction and options for report design
