The Role:

The Coordinator, Health & Safety will administer and implement the occupational health and safety programs. The Coordinator provides management support and assisting operations staff to achieve the corporate goal of zero incidents.


Key Responsibilities:


  • Conduct new employee safety orientation, safety training, job site inspections and reporting.
  • Maintain awareness of amendments to the Occupational Health & Safety Act (OHSA) and Regulations and make recommendations for their implementation.
  • Perform job site safety compliance inspections including hazard analysis, safe work procedures, written reports and recommendations.
  • Responsible for monitoring adherence to the company safety program by employees and subcontractors.
  • Maintain safety supplies and reorder as required.
  • Research, plan, organize and conduct training programs/seminars for field employees, with regard to WHMIS, Fall Protection, Orientation, Personal Protection Equipment, CPR/First Aid, industry specific related issues, etc.
  • Ensure the timely completion of accident/injury reporting to the Human Resources department.
  • Inspect areas monthly, equipment, processes, and work activities for hazardous conditions in electrical utility areas and report recommendations.
  • Participate in the Joint Health & Safety Committee meetings, complete meeting minutes and draft minutes for review.
  • Update the Joint Health & Safety Committee communications board and ensure information is valid at all times.
  • Support operations as necessary and integrate safety, quality, and environmental initiatives into the operational process
  • Coordinate health and safety training for employees as directed.
  • Verifies that work instructions (safe work procedures, job hazard analysis) are current and updated as the scope changes, responsible for "look ahead" mentality to eliminate risks
  • Assists in the investigation of incidents for cause identification and recommends corrective action, engages fully in a lesson learned continuous improvement process within the area of influence.
  • Helps Operations prepare site specific material for safety meetings and toolbox talks
  • Perform other duties as required.

You Will Bring:


  • 3+ years of manufacturing safety experience.
  • Completed Postsecondary education in OHS from a registered institution.
  • Certified Canadian Registered Safety Professional (CRSP) and / or Certified Health and Safety consultant (CHSC)
  • Experience in executing a health & safety strategy.
  • Experience in conducting Health & safety orientations.
  • Strong communication and presentation skills.
  • Computer background including experience with MS Word and Excel.
  • Strong safety record and the ability to work with a variety of individuals.
  • Valid JHSC certification.
  • Valid First Aid and CPR.
