Role Overview

Reporting to the Senior Manager Planning, Finance, the Financial Analyst is responsible for providing financial planning, analysis, and commentary support on a scheduled and ad-hoc basis for Diabetes Canada.

The Financial Analyst must maintain integrity over the Financial Planning procedures and systems through constant maintenance, development, and implementation of improvements to enhance the value added to the organization.


Location:
University Avenue, Toronto, Ontario.

Flexible work agreement policy in place allowing employees to work on a hybrid schedule, working remotely with the expectation to be in-office 1-2 days per week.


This role includes, but not limited to:
Variance Analysis, Forecasting, Budgeting, Commentary

  • Act as the central liaison between finance and various business units, to support the business units management of revenue/expense targets.
  • Develop financial models to provide more visibility and transparency into department programming.
  • Support business leaders in development of projections, budgets, and financial plans as directed
  • Support business leaders by providing accurate information for better decisionmaking
Month end, Quarter end, Year End, and Audit Requirements

  • Work closely with accounting, and the supported business units in each reporting cycle to ensure accurate financial reporting, cost capture and revenue recognition as applicable.
  • Identify areas of inefficiencies in monthly, quarterly and annual processes and offer solutions to improve efficiencies.
Reporting, Documentation & Internal Controls

  • Create new, userfriendly reporting incorporating visuals, such as graphs and waterfall charting.
  • Participate in maintenance of the financial reporting systems, including developing and improving upon custom financial reporting.
  • Contribute towards the development and maintenance of internal controls processes affecting operational finance.
  • Enhance and maintain proper training documentation and cross train with members of the department to provide vacation coverage.
Other Financial or Special Projects

  • Provide adhoc financial analysis, modelling, and reporting as needed to support business decisions.
  • Build and maintain effective working relationships with various business leaders, and Finance team members.
  • Undergraduate Degree in Accounting or Finance
  • CPA designation or enrollment in CPA Professional Education Program required.
Years of experience related to financial reporting and analysis.

  • Excellent communication skills (written and oral) to effectively communicate with individuals at various levels of financial understanding.
  • Strong understanding of financial modelling and the ability to translate operational plans into budgets and forecasts.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to problem solve complex analysis.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills
  • High attention to detail and able take on responsibilities with mínimal supervision
  • Experienced in Excel, Access, and report writing (eg. SQL).
  • Demonstrated ability to learn new financial software; experience with

Business World:
Unit 4 is considered an asset.
