Reporting to and in cooperation with the Director, Children and Youth, the Summer Camp Coordinator is responsible for planning and implementing all aspects of the summer camp program including fundraising efforts (in cooperation with the Philanthropy and Communications department), preparing reports to funders, coordinating with other staff regarding staff development, and supervising all camp staff.


RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Develop curricula for the 8 week summer camp program including day trips, overnight camping week, weekly themes, inhouse activities, rainy day activities, menu for breakfast and snack programs.
  • Plan and implement processes for hiring all camp staff.
  • Provide orientation and training for all camp staff, volunteers and translators including but not limited to issues of child development, child protection, team building, antiracism/antiharassment, multicultural sensitivity, camp procedures, safety, basic first aid, daytoday duties, recreation and games.
  • Oversee all daytoday camp operations and supervise all camp staff.
  • Maintain appropriate information and statistics and complete all necessary reports to funders.
  • Monitor camp budget, time sheets and petty cash vouchers and receipts.
  • Maintain files on each camp participant and staff member.
  • Work with parents regarding any disciplinary issues with children.
  • Document all critical incidents.
  • Identify strengths and challenges of program; adjust program as necessary in order to make the program more effective.
  • Complete an end of season assessment of the program and prepare a report that make recommendations for the following year's program.

POSITION QUALIFICATIONS

  • E.C.E. and/or Recreation Degree or Diploma.
  • First Aid and CPR training and certificate.
  • Previous camp leadership experience.
  • Skills to work sensitively with a wide variety of children from low income, new immigrant settings.
  • Able to relate well to parents in a community setting.
  • Work towards fulfilling Dixon Hall's Mission Statement.
  • Previous experience supervising a team of camp counsellors.
  • Previous experience using crisis intervention, conflict resolution and counselling skills.
  • Clear perspective on child development and the needs of children at various ages.
  • Strong understanding of policies and legal requirements relating to child protection.
  • Ability to train all camp positions in their work.
  • Fundraising, writing, and public speaking skills.
  • Strong written and verbal English language communication skills with the ability to effectively communicate ideas and concepts; fluency in additional languages that reflect the diverse community in which the program operates will be considered an asset.
  • Must be qualified to work in Canada legally for the employer
  • Able to provide a Vulnerable Sector Screening check with a 'Clear' or satisfactory result that meets the operational requirements of the Agency
  • MUST be fully vaccinated (two [2] doses) against COVID19 with a vaccine that has been approved for use in Canada
