We have an exciting opportunity for a Standards Specialist at UL Standards and Engagement.


The
Standards Specialist is a multi-faceted position that supports the standards development process to develop and revise standards used to evaluate the safety of various product types ranging from common household appliances to power transmission equipment to new and emerging technologies.


This role is responsible for ensuring that accredited American National Standards Institute (ANSI) and Standards Council of Canada (SCC) accredited standards development procedures are followed during the standards development projects.

What you'll learn & achieve:


As the Standards Specialist

, you will play a key role in the rapid growth of UL Standards and Engagement as you:


  • Ensuring that standards development projects proceed in a timely fashion.
  • Evaluating the assigned portfolio for standards development needs and opportunities
  • Ensuring that the organizations accredited standards development procedures are followed.
  • Engaging stakeholders in the standards development process, and work with them to ensure their input is given in a timely manner.
  • Recruiting stakeholders to participate in the standards development process.
  • Evaluates the Technical Committee membership rosters and to ensure membership consists of a balanced representative group of stakeholders. Recruits new Technical Committee members as appropriate.
  • Interact with engineers, scientists, and other technical stakeholders on a consistent basis.
  • Provides recommendations to Program Managers on their assigned portfolio of standards.
  • Collaborate with the Standards Operations Manager on training, workload, and career development.
  • Build relationships with key stakeholders around the world.
  • Makes independent decisions based on knowledge and available information, as appropriate.
  • Demonstrates quality, timeliness, reliability, consistency, flexibility, and accountability for all assigned tasks.
  • Applies project management practices and techniques and takes project ownership in the development and maintenance of standards requirements and oversight of deliverables.
  • Performs other duties as directed.

Professional education and experience requirements for the role include:


  • University degree in a field of study including but not limited to the following
:

Journalism, Communications, Business Administration, Science, Engineering or a related field. No experience required.

  • Proficiency with MS Office. Higher level skills in Excel and PowerPoint are a plus.
  • Ability to log and track projects and provide status reports.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects while maintaining high quality documents.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in all phases of the project.
  • Ability to consistently change and adapt to new projects.
