Job Summary

  • Student Affairs is a collection of integrated units that collaborate with faculty, staff,and students to enhance the student experience. We promote an inclusive, holistic and studentcentric approach to learning and academic success and act as a professional resource in the delivery of evidencebased student enrolment, wellness, development, and academic support programs and services. Reporting to the Director, of Student Success, the Career Advisor will develop and deliver career, experiential learning, and cocurricular programs, events, and services for students through the Bissett Student Success Centre, working closely with key partners at the university to deliver a robust suite of career development and career readiness supports.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist in designing career programs and services that promote student learning and development and are based on current research and data on student learning and career development theories.
  • Act as a facilitator related to career and experiential learning programming, modules, and workshops, including responsibilities for planning, implementation, and assessment.
  • Provide holistic advising to student populations and assist students in the development of goals that support program choice of study, career exploration, strengths, and interests.
  • Coordinate the recruitment and training of the Peer Coaching Team for the Bissett Student Success Centre. Provide direction and supervision to Peer Coaches and set regular schedules to meet the service standards for peer advising and front desk support.
  • Oversee Dalhousie's cocurricular record including the delivery, administration, promotion, relationship management, data management, and evaluation of the program.
  • Enhance students' awareness of available educational and career resources (such as honours programs, tutoring, coop programs, study abroad, and other experiential learning opportunities including volunteering or parttime employment) and make appropriate and purposeful referrals.

Note
Due to operational requirements, the successful applicant is required to work in-person on campus.

Required Qualifications

  • Undergraduate degree in a related field, plus approximately 5 years of related experience working in a helping profession.
  • Experience with program development, implementation and facilitation.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of theoretical approaches and bestpractices for career practices and principles.
  • Demonstrated experience building relationships with academic and cocurricular partners, students, and student groups with an appreciation and understanding of diversity and inclusivity.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.

Assets

  • Experience in a postsecondary, educational or nonprofit setting.
  • Career Practitioner certificate or equivalent.
