Primary Duties

Reporting to the Manager, Corporate Communications for Utilities Kingston, the successful student will be involved in a number of communications functions.

Active involvement in other ongoing projects will be promoted as time permits.


Duties may include:

  • Support communications to our water, wastewater, natural gas and electricity customers, and Utilities Kingston employees.
  • Monitor and help manage social media channels and tools including Facebook, Twitter, HootSuite, YouTube, and LinkedIn.
  • Research new communications tools and best practices.
  • Create content for digital channels (i.e., writing, editing, laying out content, taking photos or producing multimedia, etc.).
  • Implement communications plans and projects using various communications channels.
  • Analyze social media and website statistics and measure the success of campaigns.
Education, Certification and Other Qualifications Required

  • Fulltime enrolment in postsecondary studies in Marketing and Communications or Journalism, preferred.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft products specifically Excel, Word, and Outlook.
  • Proficiency with Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, and LinkedIn.
  • Demonstrated initiative and ability to problemsolve using judgment.
  • High degree of accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently, but committed to contributing to and supporting a team environment.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both in writing and verbally.
  • Demonstrated proofreading skills.
  • Strong research and analytical skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to display Corporate values.
Special Working Conditions/Conditions of Employment

  • Fulltime student at a recognized postsecondary educational institution, and returning to fulltime attendance in the Fall of 202
  • Completion of a Criminal Record Check at the employee's own expense, and to the satisfaction of Utilities Kingston.
  • Valid Class "G" driver's license, an asset.
  • Rate of pay will be $21.43/hour
