Aquatics Assistant Instructor


Responsible for assisting with swim lesson planning, instruction, evaluation, and the communication results to swim lesson patrons as required (with guidance from Instructor/Guards and Aquatics staff); escorting program participants to and from change room in an orderly manner; cleaning and tidying change rooms and pool deck area; maintaining a tidy deck area; responding to routine enquiries; provide assistance in accident prevention and public education; responding to situations and emergencies in a supportive capacity; and for assisting with program delivery/supervision as required/directed.


Aquatics Deck Attendant
Responsible for monitoring pool amusement equipment (i.e.

water slide) and providing general guidance and communication to swim patrons as required (with guidance from Instructor/Guards and Deck Supervisors); escorting program participants to and from change room in an orderly manner; cleaning and tidying change rooms and pool deck area; maintaining a tidy deck area; responding to routine enquiries; provide assistance in accident prevention and public education; responding to situations and emergencies in a supportive capacity as required/directed.

Job Requirements


Aquatics Assistant Instructor

  • Current Standard First Aid and CPR-C award from Red Cross, Lifesaving Society, St. John's Ambulance, Canadian Ski Patrol is required
  • Current Lifesaving Society Bronze Cross award is required; Lifesaving Society National Lifeguard award would be an asset
  • Current Lifesaving Society Assistant Swim Instructor or Lifesaving Society Swim Instructor award is required
  • Ability to deal courteously and effectively with the general public, certifying organizations, emergency service agencies, program participants, and staff.
  • Experience volunteering in an aquatic environment an asset.
  • Must be 14 years of age or older.
  • Training in WHMIS, SOS preferred.
  • Excellent interpersonal, organizational, and problem solving skills.
  • Due to the nature of the contacts of this position a Police Vulnerable Sector Check (Declaration of Minor) satisfactory to the Town is required.
  • Availability to work flexible hours including evenings and weekends.
