Accountabilities:

The UHN Health Sciences Libraries support the information needs of UHN's clinicians, researchers, support staff and learners.

Our strategic priorities include enabling innovation and learning through expert information leadership, and promoting and enabling access to the best evidence for decision-making.

We are seeking an innovative and enthusiastic individual for the position of Information Specialist.


Our Information Specialists provide general reference, research assistance and expert literature searches to hospital clients; provide outreach services by participating in clinical librarianship projects for selected client groups; develop and offer training courses; develop research guides using LibGuides; teach information research skills to clinical and non-clinical staff and students; evaluate and select resources in the assigned area of responsibility; market library services by establishing strong ties with the clients affiliated with assigned programs; provide reference service both in person and virtually.

They also collaborate with our colleagues in the Health Sciences Information Consortium.


This position reports to the Director of Library and Information Services and allows for a combination of onsite and remote work.


Qualifications:


  • ALAaccredited master's degree in library/information sciences or an acceptable equivalent;
  • 23 years relevant working experience in a health sciences library;
  • Experience providing reference services to programs in an academic health science setting would be a definite asset;
  • An undergraduate degree in Health or Life Sciences is preferred but not required;
  • High level of competence in the use of the Ovid biomedical databases, PubMed and other healthrelated electronic resources, including webbased and mobile resources
  • An understanding of Evidence-Based Practice and working knowledge of key EBP information resources;
  • Experience in developing search strategies for systematic reviews or other knowledge syntheses;
  • Ability to liaise with health care professionals at all levels of seniority;
  • Demonstrated experience in preparing and delivering individual and group training sessions;
  • Familiarity with EndNote or another citation manager would be an asset;
  • Familiarity with LibGuides would be an asset;
  • Demonstrated commitment to teaching, continuous learning and improvement of professional knowledge and skills;
  • Proven ability and flexibility to work well in both teambased and selfdirected environments;
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills;
  • Vaccines (COVID19 and others) are a requirement of the job unless you have an exemption on a medical ground pursuant to the Ontario Human Rights Code.
