Team & Job Overview


Our ESG Policy team is responsible for developing, implementing, and regularly reviewing EDC's ESG policies, which guides EDC's risk management approach, in addition to monitoring and keeping abreast of top ESG trends.

The team is seeking to recruit a Policy Advisor, Business and Human Rights.

The Policy Advisor will become an integral part of a multi-disciplinary policy advisory team composed of experts in sustainability, environmental and social risk management and human rights.

This is an opportunity for a resourceful self-starter that thrives in a dynamic team environment to work directly in the ever-evolving ESG field in the financial sector.


Within the framework of EDC's legal, international and corporate sustainability and responsibility requirements, the Policy Advisor, Business and Human Rights provides support on the development, implementation, and update of EDC's Human Right Policy.

Reporting to the Director, ESG Policy (Social), and working in close collaboration with the Principal, Business and Human Rights, the Policy Advisor plays a key role in supporting and advancing EDC's broader human rights program and its operationalization across the business.

The Policy Advisor provides research, analysis, and advice on matters of policy for the team, as well as contributes to corporate reporting, trend monitoring, and stakeholder engagement.


Discipline Summary

  • Supports the development, implementation, and maintenance of the corporate Environmental and Social Risk Management (ESRM) framework and its associated policies.
  • Identifies and analyzes potential noncredit related sources of client and transaction risk, from both a human rights and a broader ESG perspective and for the operations of the Corporation, recommends strategies for minimizing risks.
  • Communicates information regarding business and human rights risks and opportunities across the organization.
  • Monitors and keeps abreast of ESG and human rightsrelated issues and trends to identify and inform the development of new ESG policies, guidance and/or positions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Supports the Principal, Business and Human Rights in the development, implementation and operationalization of EDC's Human Rights Policy and the commitments therein to ensure EDC's effective management of human rights risks through its customer relationships.
  • Supports EDC's strategic work on supplychain and human rights issues.
  • Monitors emerging human rights trends, conducts research and analysis, and prepares reports on human rights issues relevant to EDC and its customers.
  • Contributes to EDC's human rights biennial report and overall transparency and disclosure practice on EDC's human rights performance.
  • Lead on certain key initiatives, such as development of guidance and/or positions on specific ESG topics.
  • Provides support in advising and informing other teams on EDC's business and human rightsrelated work across the organization including the line of business and EDC's other functions.
  • Leverage influence, negotiation and persuasion skills to engage in internal and external activities and delivers on the team's and EDC's objectives.
  • Utilizes strong interpersonal and communication skills to build a network across the Corporation, as well as effective time management and organizational skills to respond to ad hoc human rightsrelated requests.

Screening Criteria

  • Completion of an undergraduate degree in a relevant social science discipline such as public administration, international affairs, international development, political sciences or economics, or law or related discipline.
