- Casual Education Assistants
- $31.00/hour
- Work with special needs students to develop basic academic and social skills using prepared learning kits or teacher-prepared lesson plans and schedules
- Assist children with completing prescribed programs covering concepts like word recognition, language development, spelling, printing/writing, reading, arithmetic, etc.
- Assist students with personal hygiene needs to reinforce the concept of personal care
- Provide general assistance to students in organizing their work, staying on task, locating resource materials, and ensuring comprehension on various subjects
- Attend classes where students are integrated to support students and/or teachers; make notes for review with students later
- Completion of a recognized certificate in Special Education Assistant or related courses
- Valid B.C. Class 5 driver's license
- May need specific skills/courses like First Aid, Non-violent Crisis Intervention, Applied Behaviour Analysis, or Autism Spectrum Disorder
- At least six (6) months of similar role-related experience working with children
- Proven interest and capability to work with children facing learning disabilities, physical disabilities, and challenging behaviors
- Observation, articulation, and listening discrimination skills
- Ability to nurture and be sensitive towards students with diverse backgrounds and abilities
- Flexibility and patience to effectively address the varying needs of students
- Excellent communication skills to collaborate with students, provide feedback to educators, administrators, and parents within district guidelines

SUMMARY
This role involves supporting classroom teachers by complementing and reinforcing lessons and concepts taught by teachers. The Education Assistant (EA) works under the teacher's guidance and the school administrator's supervision. EAs work with students individually or in small groups, following a structured program to enhance students' skills in various areas such as behavioral, social, academic, or life skills. Duties may involve providing personal care, lifting and transferring students, or administering medications.
