Position Title:
Academic Program Manager

Status:
Full Time (1 year contract)

Hours: 37.5 hrs per week

Faculty/Department:
Faculty of Applied Sciences and Technology

Campus/Location:
Primarily works in-person at the North Campus.


Salary:
May range between $62,722 to $78,403 per annum


What you will do:


Provide academic and administrative leadership, supervision and direction to faculty, support staff, students, and clients of the Faculty of Applied Sciences and Technology (FAST).

The Academic Program Manager participates in the development and implementation of Faculty-based academic and student success initiatives such as faculty and support staff recruitment and retention, student retention and success, strategic enrolment management, academic operations, and integrity of programming.

The Academic Program Manager is responsible for daily operating matters and operational planning / management within the faculty ensuring that the semester-to-semester goals of the Faculty are met.


  • Supports and advises faculty on policies and procedures such as academic misconduct, academic progression, and complex academic advising
  • Conducts orientation for all new staff and faculty members, at the beginning of each semester, which may include workshops on classroom management, Humber and FAST policies and procedures and an introduction to the Faculty's critical dates and processes
  • Effectively supports the Faculty and Associate Deans with nonFT Human Resource activities such as recruiting, hiring, and management of employees in a unionized environment.
  • Project management of academic processes that support the strategic direction of the institution to ensure integrity, and quality assurance, of programming
  • Initiates problemsolving process for disputes involving professors/instructors and students and escalates to the Associate Dean/Centre for Human Rights/or Human Resources as required.
  • Connects students to the appropriate resources and advises students to help support their academic success.
  • Collaboratively manages recruitment, marketing, and outreach initiatives for the programs in the Faculty
  • Analyzes data and available intelligence to support strategies and recommendations that inform plans of action as appropriate.
  • Collaboratively leads student retention initiatives for programs in the Faculty with appropriate stakeholder groups.
  • Liaises with the Scheduling team on the development of timetables

What you bring to the role:

Education
Four-year bachelor's degree or equivalent in Science/ Applied Science, ICT, Design, Education, or a related area of study.


Experience and Skills
Minimum of five (5) years of relevant practical experience supporting an academic environment in a post-secondary environment. Digital fluency, and the ability to navigate multiple software platforms and programs is required. Experience with learning management systems to support teaching and learning, would be considered an asset. The ability to manage a variety of competing priorities is core to the role.

  • Excellent interpersonal and teambuilding skills to resolve conflicts, lead staff, and work cooperatively with internal and external stakeholders

  • Componence with MS Office Applications, and relevant platforms
