Primary Duties and Responsibilities:


  • Responsible for monthly, quarterly and annual government filings for HST, payroll, EHT, in compliance with Federal and Provincial payroll laws and regulations.
  • Manage payroll function for two Canadian entities in the accurate processing of payroll.
  • Management of the full payroll cycle, process biweekly payroll for all staff (hourly & salaried)
  • Ensure payroll calculation accuracy by monitoring, processing, validating and correcting digital and manual employee timesheets
  • Process new hire set ups, update and maintain employee data in the payroll system
  • Administer payroll processes for all employee changes (vacation & sick time, RRSP contributions etc.)
  • Maintain confidentiality at all times, by adhering to legal and ethical standards.
  • Process payroll for commissions, expense reimbursements, bonus, and gifts etc.
  • Ensure compliance with all governmental requirements (for remittances, legal deductions, garnishments, third party payments, etc.)
  • Review and ensure timely reporting of all payroll withholding tax and tax payments to appropriate provincial and federal agencies.
  • Calculate vacation accrual amounts ensuring the accuracy of balance showing in the payroll system.
  • Prepare record of employments and process termination payments
  • Generate payroll reports for month end processes, prepare payroll journal entries
  • Manage edition of yearend tax slips, participate actively in yearend processes for reconciliation & payments of EHT, worker's compensation premiums, benefits premiums, etc.
  • Work closely with HR to ensure benefits and payroll tax codes are correct.
  • Respond to payroll inquiries in a timely manner to internal customers
  • Maintain all payroll reports and backup documents.
  • Submit employee contributions to the RPP plan.
  • Participate in different initiatives and special projects related to payroll and/or HR.
  • Conducting Accounts Payable work in multiple currencies across intercompany transactions
  • Provide general accounting support as required (AP/Data entry) & monthly reconciliations
  • Other duties as assigned

Knowledge and Skill Requirements:


  • Diploma or Degree in Accounting, Payroll or similar field
  • PCP certification is an asset.
  • 3 years' work experience in full cycle payroll processing
  • Prior experience in managing multisite & multiprovince payroll processing
  • Strong knowledge of federal, provincial & local tax laws
  • Strong knowledge of payroll and tax reporting compliance requirements
  • Proficient with MS Office Suite, especially advanced MS excel
  • Strong ability to use internet solutions, accounting software, and digital reporting tools
  • Excellent time management skills, strong work ethic, honest and ethical
  • Proactive, resourceful and ability to multitask

Physical Requirements:


  • Ability to use a computer for extensive period of time
  • Ability to remain in a sitting position for long period of time
