Job Profile:


The successful applicant will be responsible and accountable for carrying out a wide range of general maintenance tasks for the various buildings and grounds of IUOE Local 793, OETIO, and OEBAC including servicing and repair activities to maintain the buildings, equipment, furnishings, fixtures and surrounding grounds in proper conditions.

This position works under the immediate supervision of Fengate Property Management and the overarching direction of the Business Manager & Assistant Business Manager.


Job Responsibilities / Duties:

To help maintain the various buildings of the IUOE Local 793, OETIO, and OEBAC facilities by:

  • Inspecting the buildings as regularly scheduled, including a constant review of all facility equipment and systems to proactively minimize unplanned downtime, and reporting any issues to Fengate Property Management;
  • Identifying vandalism or other general property issues requiring attention and reporting said issues to Fengate Property Management immediately;
  • Monitoring and identifying any areas requiring immediate maintenance or repair (e.g., water damage, burnt out lights, tripping hazards, etc.) and performing timely corrections as instructed;
  • Ensuring all buildings are aesthetically maintained per facility standards, including performing paint touchups, ensuring cleanliness standards are met, ensuring all dispensers are stocked (paper towel, toilet paper, soap, etc.), and ensuring the general facility is free from obvious damage or visual disrepair;
  • Responding to any requests for maintenance or repair services from building staff as directed by Fengate Property Management and/or the IUOE Local 793 leadership;
  • Replenishing washroom and cleaning supplies and general maintenance supplies as scheduled and/or as needed;
  • Inspecting the functionality of various building systems, including regular fire extinguisher inspections, etc. and replacing/repairing any items found noncompliant as approved by Fengate Property Management;
  • Troubleshooting any and all building issues, performing basic replacement or repairs as needed (e.g., repairing electrical or plumbing fixtures), and reporting the need for outside expertise as warranted to Fengate Property Management for approval;
  • Executing general labour tasks within the facility as needed, such as hanging whiteboards, putting together or moving office furniture, safely relocating heavy items for staff, etc.
To help maintain the exterior grounds of the IUOE Local 793, OETIO, and OEBAC facilities by:

  • Inspecting the property regularly, including the constant review of all pathways, exterior lighting, landscaping, etc. and proactively flagging any potential issues and performing corrective actions as authorized by Fengate Property Management;
  • Identifying vandalism or other issues requiring attention and taking appropriate corrective action as authorized by Fengate Property Management;
  • Performing basic exterior landscaping activities as needed to ensure the grounds are well maintained and cleanly, including grass cutting, gardening, weeding, mulching, and so forth;
  • Helping to keep the IUOE Local 793 monument and surrounding gardens pristinely kept and maintained with respect for visiting families;
  • Performing snowclearing duties including clearing all sidewalks and entrances of snow and ice, and removing all snow and ice from the driveways and parking lots;
  • Ensuring grounds are free of litter and debris and that all external garbage's and ashtrays are regularly emptied.
To assist in ensuring health and safety compliance for all the buildings and grounds by:

  • Contributing to regular and timely documentation of all maintenance activities;
  • Performing all maintenance and repair activities in compliance with occupational health and safety regulations and any other applicable legislations;
  • Receiving the corrective action item list from recurring JHSC inspections and performing timely corrective repairs within the required response deadlines as directed by Fengate Property Management and/or IUOE Local 793 leadership.
To prepare the OE Banquet Hall for events by:

  • Setting up the banquet hall in advance of events according to the approved floor plan;
  • Providing refreshments for membership meetings as requested;
  • Assisting with the cleanup and breakdown after scheduled events.
To perform other related duties and special projects as assigned by Fengate Property Management, the Business Manager, Assistant Business Manager and/or Human Resources, including but not limited to:

  • Providing transportation for people, goods and supplies as requested;
  • Providing maintenance support for the Area Offices as directed;
  • Supporting IUOE Local 793 at special events such as fundraisers, member celebrations, etc.
