The Alliance Against Violence & Adversity (AVA) Intern will report to AVA's Scientific Director (SD), AVA Leads, Internship Leader and support the team by providing assistance to meet AVA objectives.


Summary of Key Responsibilities (job functions include but are not limited to):

  • The intern is primarily responsible for the project; successful completion requires constant collaboration between the AVA Intern and the internship leader
  • Manages own time effectively and ensures immediate reports to manager is kept informed of activities and work progress
  • Demonstrated strong communication, team and customer service skills, and an ability to exercise judgment within established guidelines
  • Understanding of safety codes, standards, and systems related to specialization
  • Complete the following evaluation documents
  • Midpoint Self-Evaluation
  • Midpoint Report
  • End of Internship Self-Evaluation
  • End of Internship Report
  • Complete the courses listed below which are part of the AVA Online Training Modules
  • Implementing Knowledge into Practice: An Introduction to Implementation Science (Approximately 1.5 hours)
  • Implementation Planning (Approximately 1.5 hours)
  • Equity, Diversity, Inclusion and Accessibility Introduction (Approximately 1.5 hours)
  • Create a 5minute video presentation outlining the project or work engaged in during the internship as well as key areas of learning and growth as they relate to AVA's goals, objectives and guiding principles (upon completion of the internship). If an AVA Intern is unable or prefers not to be video recorded, an alternate method of presentation may be considered. AVA Interns should refer to the questions posed in the End of Internship Self-Evaluation to guide their presentation

Qualifications / Requirements:


  • AVA Interns must be a graduate student (masters/doctoral) or postdoctoral scholar
  • If a scholar in currently participating in the Triadic Mentorship program, they must complete month 4 of the program prior to being accepted into the Community Agency Internship program
  • Must be open to learning and development, and be willing to accept new challenges and assignments
  • Demonstrated strong communication, team and customer service skills, and an ability to exercise judgment within established guidelines
  • Intermediate to advanced skills in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint), Internet skills
  • A positive attitude and the ability to work independently and as part of a team are critical to success
