Major Duties:
Specific Responsibilities:
- Interprets specifications and drawings or sample parts and plans sequence of operations.
- Machines to dimensions and tolerances and prepares working sketches from general descriptions and by examining parts and their mating surfaces.
- Measures, marks and scribes center lines, dimensions and reference points on work piece, using measuring and marking instruments, to lay out work piece for machining.
- Fixtures work piece in machine by securing it onto manually or using hoist, dial indicator, shims, parallel blocks or clamps.
- Selects and installs cutting tools in machines.
- Sets controls and gears to facilitate indexing of work piece, cutting speed and depth of cut according to type of materials.
- Starts machine and observes machining progress, and frequently verifies conformance of part to specifications, using measuring instruments; such as, scales, calipers, micrometers and fixed gauges.
- Finishes and fits parts to mechanisms by filing, grinding, scraping and polishing.
- Verifies dimensions and alignment, using instruments; such as, micrometers, height gauges, surface plate and gauge block.
- At times may operate assembled or repaired mechanism to test performance.
- Ensures that all business activities are performed with the highest ethical standards and in compliance with the ATS Code of Business Conduct.
- Adheres to all health and safety rules and procedures.
Qualifications:
Education:
- A Certificate of Qualification as a General Machinist or equivalent.
Experience:
- Three years' of precision machining experience, working to close tolerances, in a machine shop or toolroom environment.
