The Community and Corporate Fund Development Officer manages the operations, administrative and financial management of the Thames Valley Education Foundation (TVEF), an arms-length charity that supports students within the Thames Valley District Board, by providing direction and leadership to support community-based initiatives and fund development.


KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:


  • Manage a portfolio of major donors and sponsors and execute fundraising initiatives to bring in funds to support students at TVDSB, including donor problemsolving, working with external partners for fundraising efforts; also includes creation of fundraising materials such as Annual Reports, newsletters, and communication initiatives
  • Manage the TVEF Board of Directors and complete regular organizational reporting, policy review/amendments/creation, request for vendor proposals
  • Manage and support the TVEF program logistics, planning, evaluation and implementation including, Caring Fund, Best First Day (backpack program), Lawson Literary Awards, and Learning Enhancement Fund
  • Support TVDSB internal staff in fundraising efforts, including fundraising policy support
  • Manage overall aspects of the TVEF including staffing, budgeting and financial reporting, adhering to federal and provincial requirements

WORK PERFORMED:


  • Administer the student awards and scholarship portfolios for the Board and the Thames Valley Education Foundation (TVEF)
  • Manage, administer and direct all marketing initiatives regarding student scholarships, trusts and bursaries, and coordinate grants
  • Serve as custodian of all legal documents and trust accounts related to the TVEF
  • Develop, implement, assess, review and revise a strategic plan for the TVEF, in consultation with the Board of Directors, providing the highest level of stewardship and opportunities to sustain and grow the foundation
  • Develop and maintain relationships supportive of the goals and objectives of the Board and the TVEF with donors and potential donors, community groups, philanthropic organizations and government bodies
  • Provide expertise in the areas of fund raising, sponsorship, grants submissions, memorial donations, planned giving, major giving, donor recognition and stewardship to school staff, parent groups, donors, legal and financial advisors
  • Develop related policies and procedures
  • Coordinate related systemwide programs and special events
  • Act as spokesperson regarding special events and with media interviews
  • Liaise with financial services staff to ensure transactions and records are kept according to Board policies and bylaws of the TVEF
  • Supervise development staff, including delegation of responsibilities, managing performance and conduct issues, completing performance appraisals and goal setting activities

QUALIFICATIONS/SKILLS/SPECIALIZED KNOWLEDGE:


  • Excellent interpersonal skills with effective communication skills, both orally and in writing
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team
  • Ability to manage and lead projects
  • Sound understanding of fundraising principles, including Board governance, Canada Revenue Agency rules and regulations for nonprofit organizations, financial investment and donation vehicles, and nonprofit marketing practices
  • Ability to present in both small and large groups
  • Ability to liaise with individuals and organizations
  • Ability to induce cooperation with external partners

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS:


  • Completion of a three (3) year Degree in Public Relations, Communications, Marketing or equivalent
  • Five (5) years of related work experience is required
