Accounting Clerk - Whitby, Canada - Region of Durham

Accounting Clerk - Children's Services DivisionReporting to the Quality and Contract Compliance Advisor, the incumbent will:
- Reconcile, analyze and process monthly attendance records submitted by all Purchase of Service Providers, including Directly Operated Centres
- Prepare reports, entries and review data in the Ontario Child Care Management System (OCCMS)
- Maintain accurate and organized data sets and records to support fiscally responsible practices, budget monitoring and provincial reporting
- Reconcile and process service provider, educator and client submissions e.g. budgets, Wage Enhancement, General Operating Program, registration, variable enrolment forms
- Maintain professional and respectful relationships with service providers, educators and clients by supporting their needs
- Diplomatically responding to concerns/queries of a sensitive nature to ensure stakeholder satisfaction. For example, responses to absent allotment letters distributed to clients
- Report Service Providers advance payments which exceed 50%
- Calculate and input adjustments on attendance records for all Purchase of Service Providers, including Directly Operated Centres
- Identify trends in enrolment and notify Caseworkers for followup
- Maintain accurate and organized accounts payable/receivable records
- Provide back up for the Clerk 2 positions when necessary
The successful applicant will possess:
- A postsecondary certificate program of up to one year in Office Administration or equivalent which includes courses in Accounting
- A minimum of one year of related accounting experience
- Knowledge of the Early Learning and Child Care Service Management Plan, Purchase of Service Operating Criteria, the Region's Purchasing bylaw, and departmental and divisional policies and procedures
- Working knowledge of the Region's records management systems and financial management procedures
- Knowledge of Children's Service Fee Subsidy Policies and Procedures, as well as Divisional and Departmental Policies and Procedures is considered an asset
- Excellent verbal and written communication abilities
- Strong interpersonal and customer service skills
- Demonstrated time management and organizational skills
- Ability to work under pressure within tight time frames
- Proven ability to work independently and as a member of a team
- Ability to multitask and prioritize responsibilities
This position is with Salary Grade 3 and will be paid at the following hourly rates:
- Start: $
Six Month:
$ Job: $34.04
Conditions of Employment Proof of education, qualifications and any other job bona fide requirements will be required prior to start date.
